Job Posting:JR101237 Landscape Technician (Open)Department:Facilities, PMPosition Type:RegularOpen Date:07-29-2025Close Date:$46,736 - $52,000Job Description:Under general supervision, performs technical work in the field of landscape maintenance, ornamental horticulture, and/or landscape construction. Leads and provides training for landscape maintenance projects.Responsibilities: Performs landscaping activities such as planning and layout of projects, planting and cultivating shrubs, trees, turf and flowers, and pesticide applications. Inspects and monitors the conditions of the landscape to assess horticultural or environmental problems. Advises and instructs grounds personnel in erosion control, mowing practices, fertilization, pruning, irrigation and applications of pesticides to fields and landscape. Performs insect and disease identification, soil evaluation, and other evaluative techniques. Determines and takes appropriate remedial action. Ensures adequate supplies, materials and equipment are available for assigned projects. Ensures the operational safety and readiness of equipment; cleans equipment and performs routine maintenance and repairs. Operates landscaping equipment such as aerifiers, sprayers, forklifts, backhoes, mowers, power and hand tools. Cleans project area upon completion of work.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors degree in horticulture, agronomy or related field. Two years in landscape construction, agronomy, or landscape maintenance work. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations; to followoral and written instructions.Operate and perform minor maintenance to assigned hand and power tools and equipment; to perform work in, on, around, under and over trees, shrubs, and buildings and facilities. Work at heights up to 35 feet; to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment. Conditions of Employment:Candidates must have a valid Maryland Non-Commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license. Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job. Background checks are conducted on all selected candidates. This position is considered an essential function/employee position.Employees in this classification will be required to report to work or remain at work during inclement weather and/or other campus events or emergencies.
