JOB DESCRIPTION

Lathe Machinist

Join our team as a Lathe Machinist in the machine shop where you will perform CNC setups and operate CNC lathe machines using Fanuc controls. You will work with metals such as titanium, aluminum, stainless steel, and composites on Nakumura and Wasleon machines. Your role will involve reading and understanding G&M codes, selecting appropriate tools, setting up jobs, and completing them independently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CNC setups and operate CNC lathe machines.
  • Work with metals including titanium, aluminum, stainless steel, and composites.
  • Utilize Fanuc controls for machine operation.
  • Read and comprehend G&M codes.
  • Select and prepare the necessary tools for each build.
  • Review and understand CNC programs and requirements.
  • Set up and complete jobs independently, ensuring quality output.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a setup lathe machinist.
  • Proficiency in using Fanuc controls.
  • Ability to read and understand G&M codes.
  • Experience with micrometers, calipers, and deburring.
  • Knowledge of Mastercam and CNC programming.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience setting up Swiss screw machines is a plus.
  • Possession of personal tools and calibration equipment is advantageous.

Work Environment

Work schedule is Monday to Thursday from 6am to 3:30pm, and Friday from 6am to 12:30pm. The shop maintains a high standard for quality, expecting employees to deliver parts that meet quality requirements. The environment is close-knit with a small team of 25 people, some of whom have been with the company for over 30 years. Collaboration and a willingness to learn are essential in this career-focused CNC role.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
