This date may change to earlier or later.Benefit Info:*Benefits offered: Sick personal bereavement leave Employee Assistance Program. *Optional Benefits: Additional life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance Annuities (403(b) Roth) Medical flexible spending arrangement Limited purpose flexible spending arrangement Dependent care assistance programCLASSIFICATION: PSETITLE: Lead CustodianREPORTS TO: Director of Facilities and Operations POSITION SUMMARY:Lead and participate in the performance of custodial and routine maintenance functions and activities; to perform general custodial functions in maintaining assigned site in a clean safe and secure condition and to do other related work as required.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:High School graduate or equivalentPrior acceptable custodial experience or in areas related to plant operations and maintenanceAbility to communicate with persons at all levels in the school communityAbility to follow written and oral instructionsDemonstrated aptitude or competence for successful completion of the tasks assignedHave and maintain a record of punctuality and good attendanceAbility and skill to operate mechanical equipment and toolsAbility to operate boilers and/or other major heating or ventilating equipment. Boiler certificate may be required.Ability to lift heavy weights without bodily injury. A certificate of health may be required.Ability to recognize and diagnose existing or potential mechanical electrical plumbing or safety problems that may exist at the schoolMaintain proper attire ensuring that personal appearance is neat and appropriate at all timesMust have ability to perform minor maintenance tasks at the schoolSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable and appropriateSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Valid First Aid/CPR cardSuccessful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearanceI-9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control ActHIV/HBV training (obtain within 60 days of hire date District provided)Human Resources new hire training (obtain within 60 days of hire date District provided)KNOWLEDGE OF:Methods procedures materials and equipment utilized in cleaning and maintaining a variety of surfaces equipment and special purpose activity centersPrinciples methods and procedures of organization supervision and employee motivationRequirements for maintaining school facilities in a safe clean and sanitary conditionSafe working methods and procedureABILITY TO:Effectively maintain work schedules and motivate custodial personnel toward the accomplishment of assigned tasksPerform light to moderately heavy manual activitiesEffectively lead custodial personnel and provide technical input into their work performanceEffectively and efficiently assist in the training and orientation of custodial personnelUnderstand and carry out oral and written directionsEstablish and maintain cooperative working relationshipsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects required to carry out job responsibilities.Exert 50 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects. Must have an adequate range of motion in the upper extremities.Ascend and descend ladders stairs scaffolding and ramps and walk or stand for extended periods Perceiving the nature of sound near and far vision depth perception providing oral information the manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this jobPhysical ability to tolerate frequent exposure to hot cold wet humid or windy conditions caused by weatherReasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESConfer with the Director of Facilities and Operations relative to the maintenance care and cleaning of school facilitiesRegularly review and inspect site to ensure against safety hazardsInstruct new and substitute personnel in the performance of cleaning and facility maintenance functionsAssist in the planning organization work scheduling and leading of the custodial crew in cleaning and maintaining assigned sitesReview and inspect the work of custodians to ensure adherence to standards of cleanliness sanitation safety and to provide input into the performance evaluation of custodial personnelRequisition supplies materials and equipment to ensure that an appropriate operational inventory is maintainedAssist custodial personnel in resolving unusual problems and situationsPerform routine facility and equipment maintenance functions including minor repair part replacement and adjustment tasksInspect and regulate HVAC electrical and plumbing systems to ensure adherence to operational procedures and to maximize efficiencyMaintain necessary reports and logs of equipment facilities and emergency proceduresPrepare the building for occupancy for the next school year during the summer and other vacation breaksMaintain custodial office and supply rooms in a neat orderly and safe condition and ensure that all equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of each work shiftLead others in the set up and removal of furniture as required for special events; distributes equipment and supplies as neededEMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:The position is that of lead custodian and is represented by Public School Employees of Monroe collective bargaining unit. This is a twelve (12) month position unless otherwise noted on the position-opening announcement. Salary and benefits as determined by the current collective bargaining agreement. Custodians are hired as District employees and may be transferred from one site to another depending on District needs as determined by the District.EVALUATION PROCEDURESPerformance shall be evaluated annually according to Board and administrative policies and procedures.
