Description / Position OverviewLead Educator Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site (Recreation Assistant I)About the Job:This is a multi-faceted position working in various roles including but not limited to lead instructor for School the RANCH educator for seasonal field trips interpreter for summer living history program and facilitator of public outreach.Job Type:Full timeWork Schedule:The work schedule will require weekend work and some holiday work.Work Location: Rock Ledge Ranch 3105 Gateway Rd Colorado Springs CO 80904 USALearn more about the department: position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year and any furloughs subsequently approved.As a Recreation Assistant I you will:Lead the development implementation and evaluation of outdoor education programs and activities for School at the RANCH that meet state educational standardsEncourage natural and cultural resource conservation by assisting in the designing planning and providing of inclusive historical interpretive programming for a variety of participantsParticipate in public outreach programs that promote Rock Ledge RanchAssist in the planning and implementation of public events that advance the Ranchs mission of education and stewardshipCommunicate effectively with students and families who participate in the Ranchs youth programsAttend training when possibleProvide first responder aid and communication with Fire Rescue and Police personnel during emergenciesWe are looking for candidates who demonstrate:Knowledge of:Colorado State Standards for EducationHistorical interpretive techniquesColorado history specifically Pikes Peak regional historyChildhood development practices and educational philosophyMicrosoft Suite (proficient)Ability to:Establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populationsCommunicate clearly and concisely orally and in writingDeliver exceptional customer service to visitorsMinimum QualificationsThe following qualifications are not required but they are considered desirable. This information may be used to identify a top group of applicants.Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).One year of full-time professional experience in a related field.Certifications and Licenses: Must possess or be able to acquire the following certifications and/or licenses required in accordance with standards established by departmental policy.Possess or obtain within three months of hire CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and First Aid certificationsPreferred QualificationsThe following qualifications are not required but they are considered desirable. This information may be used to identify a top group of applicants.An associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major coursework in history education agriculture environmental science or a related fieldOne or more years of experience working with school-aged childrenPossess Certified Interpretive Guide Certification with the National Association for InterpretationAdditional InformationThis position requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally. The ability to stand walk climb crouch bend and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions is required.
