Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob Title: CookDepartment: Early Childhood Education- Child Development CenterReports To: Child Development Center Program ManagerJob Status: Hourly- Non-ExemptType: Regular Full TimeGrade: AJOB SUMMARY:Nooksack Indian Tribe Baby College (NITBC) Child Development cook will prepare and cook breakfast, lunch and snack for the NITBC participants and students. Assist the Program Manager in preparing menu. Clean kitchen and cafeteria after meals. The typical work schedule of a Cook is an 8-hour shift from 7:00 am – 3:00 p.m. Monday - Friday, and up to one evening shift of work per month.MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain a sign in sheet for children and record the number of children served each day.Acquire headcount for program attendance before each meal is prepared.Pre-clean and sanitize food preparation and serving areas, cooking utensils, and serving ware prior to any preparation of meals.Prepare cooking meals in quantities according to the menu and the number of children to be served.Clean dishes (after each meal), utensils, tables, counters, and kitchen equipment.Clean and maintain the kitchen and dining area.Perform duties in a safe and sanitary manner.Monitor the kitchen whenever hazardous equipment is in use. Knives and other hazardous utensils, cleansers and other hazardous supplies will be kept in a secured location when not in use.Assist with shopping/ordering for each week’s meal and make weekly food orders through vendors. Maintain a daily production report.Count each meal served, amount of food used in preparing meals and food not used.Date all packed foods. Discard outdated foods and log discarded items.Maintain food production records as required by Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and OSPI guidelines.Turn in all kitchen expense receipts and prepared food item labels (CN Labels) to the Child Development Center Program Manager.Build positive relationships and communicate in a respectful manner with families, children, staff and Managers.Work with the Child Development Center Program Manager for approval of menus.OTHER DUTIES:The Tribe is committed to community service and the well-being of its members. Therefore, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.PREFERENCE:Indian Preference Policy applies to this and all positions with the Nooksack Indian Tribe.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThe following qualifications are required for the incumbent to have, in order to be considered for the position.REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING FOR THE POSITION: High School Diploma/GED.Must be 18 years of age.6 months of work experience in cooking and/or food preparation, food service or culinary operation. Experience working in a child care program is preferred, but not required. REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Must pass alcohol/drug test upon job offer and throughout employment.This position requires regular contact with or control over children and is therefore subject to an extensive Criminal Background Check, including fingerprinting, at time of hire and periodically thereafter.Complete any required medical tests and vaccinations as required by regulations that govern the program such as TB Test, and COVID-19 Vaccination.Must pass an initial health examination and pass a re-examination every two years as recommended by their health care provider in accordance with tribal, state, or local requirements that include screeners or tests for communicable diseases, as appropriate.REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Washington State Driver’s License and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe. (Must Provide Driving Abstract at time of hire). Obtain and maintain Infant, Child & Adult First Aid & CPR Certified, completed no later than first available training offered upon hire. Obtain and maintain Food Handler’s Permit, completed no later than first available training offered upon hire.Bloodborne Pathogens Training, completed no later than first available training offered upon hire and periodically thereafter as required of the program.Child abuse & Neglect Mandated Reporter Training, completed no later than first available training offered upon hire and periodically thereafter as required of the program.Must complete fire extinguisher training no later than first available training offered upon hire, and annually thereafter.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.):Be able to stand, walk, sit, twist, bend/stoop, squat/kneel, crawl, move quickly, and reach on a daily basis.Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds without assistance occasionally.Read, write, speak and understand EnglishOperate in mentally and physically stressful situations with composure.May have to walk/drive between office locations under a variety of conditions.Wear hairnet or hat while working in the kitchen.Visual abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to focus.Required to use hands and fingers and reach with hands and arms.DESIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES POSITIONThe following qualifications are preferred/helpful for the incumbent who has these skills/knowledge or abilities for this position.Ability to work in a Native American community.Ability to maintain health and safety standards.Must adhere to the Confidentiality Policy and statement must be signed.Must be culturally sensitive.Meal planning and preparationUnderstand CACFPI have read and understand the position requirements as stated above I further, understand that occasionally I may be instructed to perform duties that are not listed above but are relative to my position.
