Our motto is: “Access to Information = Access to Justice.” For those who do not have, or cannot afford, legal representation, the Law Library provides free resources, supports those trying to understand their rights or fending for themselves in court and helps navigate the legal system in general. Our staff serves more than 100 thousand patrons annually and the number continues to grow daily as new programs and workshops are developed with the assistance of our many partners to provide access to innovative legal research, technology and services. POSITION INFORMATION The Library Aide will assist the CMS Support Supervisor in providing quality customer services by keeping library materials up to date and in the correct location on the shelves. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: The following responsibilities of the Collection Management Services Aide are performed under general supervision:Assists Collection Maintenance process by updating materials Retrieves volumes for filing, binding, etc.Files loose-leaf material, pocket parts, microfiche, etc.Processes materials by targeting, stamping, etc.Retrieves recalled superseded materials from shelves.Scans titles in the LLMC project.Takes materials to the recycling bins.Handles daily mail run for inter-office mail delivery and pick-up.Helps keep kitchen in order.Other related assignments as needed. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:Required:High School Graduate or GED.Must be able to read and understand written and oral instructions in order to be able to file and shelve correctlyRequires the ability to spend focused attention on alpha and numerical details for extended periods to minimize errors in shelving and filingAbility to communicate effectively with users and staff. Careful attention to detail; good organization skills. Ability to work in a team environment with diverse staffPreferred: 1 - 2 years experience in a Law LibraryAbility to use computers, especially as relates to library systems, office productivity tools and the InternetWORK ENVIRONMENTBusy public law library including a large reading room, general office environment, open and closed book stacks, and loading dock. Some exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dust and/or odors. PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIREDRequires the ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs .May require physical activities such as bending, stooping, reaching, twisting and crawling. Some exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dust and/or odors.Must be able to move to, and work in, different areas of the library as needed.
