Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSummary: The Library Information Services Director supervises the provision of legal information materials and services to the Court of Common Pleas, the Magisterial District Judges, and all other judicial and court-related offices. The Library Information Services Director is also responsible for defining and carrying out the mission and services of the Lehigh County Law Library, a public county law library. He/she has the overall responsibility for all Law Library services, policies, planning, budget, personnel, and collection development. He/she has the responsibility for all acquisitions, cataloging, and technical processing. He/she is responsible for the provision of reference services, bibliographic instruction, online database provision, and all other patron services. Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required.Develops, oversees and evaluates all operations of the public Lehigh County Law Library including patron services, collection development, and technical services.Hires, trains, leads and evaluates the work of law library staff members who are responsible for assisting patrons and performing technical duties.Provides advanced reference/research services to in-house personnel and law library patrons.Prepares and submits operating budget recommendations to District Court Administrator for inclusion in judicial budget and administers the law library budget.Administers the purchasing and delivery system by which members of the bench and all other offices are supplied with legal information.Administers the accounts payable system and maintains payment records for all material acquired through Library Information Services. Researches, purchases, implements and supports online, networked and standalone computer aided legal research (CALR) systems utilized in the Lehigh County Law Library and other County and Court offices. Maintains user records/passwords for County and Court employee CALR users. Researches, purchases, maintains and modifies library management, cataloging, and circulation software used to operate the public law library's circulation function. Creates library Self-Help website content, instructional and CLE material, provides bibliographic and library instruction to patrons and represents the Law Library at local library conferences, Bar Associations and colleges.Designs and produces the Court of Common Pleas Annual Report and performs other Document Preparation as requested. Supervisory Responsibilities: The Library Information Services Director has supervisory responsibility for approximately (6) direct reports.Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the individual in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skills and ability required.Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Education should specifically be Bachelors in Library Science or prior law firm library experience.
