Overview:The Library Student Engagement Assistant will provide customer service public-facing support and project assistance for the Oakton Library. Students in this role will help monitor the Reference & Research Desk area assist students with basic questions such as printing room reservations and directional support and contribute to library marketing social media and campus engagement initiatives. This position is ideal for students who enjoy working with people communicating clearly and contributing to library events and outreach.Department: LibraryCampus Location: Des PlainesLength of Employment: January 2026 - May 2026 (with opportunity to renew)Can a student do homework in this positionDuring low-traffic periods only and with supervisor approval.Hours Available: Up to 10 hours/week per studentScheduled Hours: Monday: 810amTuesday: 810amWednesday: 11am3pmThursday: 11am3pmFriday: 810:30am & 27:30pmSchedule Flexibility: Students are assigned weekly shifts. Once scheduled students are expected to follow through with their determined shifts with minimal adjustments. Tasks Duties and Responsibilities (TDRs) Monitor the Reference area by routinely walking through the space to ensure students are able to locate resources study spaces and services.Assist students with basic questions such as:How to print or scanLocating books on the shelvesFinding classrooms departments or offices on campusReserving study roomsProvide a welcoming and supportive presence in all public library spaces.Notify library faculty or staff of issues requiring additional support. Student assistants may occasionally support or check in with other reference librarians depending on staffing needs.Create and assist with marketing materials for library programs (flyers graphics social media drafts).Help plan set up and host pop-up library events on Student Street or other campus locationsSupport social media content development by gathering photos drafting captions and brainstorming ideas.Assist with preparation and day-of support for library-sponsored college-wide events. Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Other Abilities or KSOAs)Must be currently enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (Fall/Spring) and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.Demonstrated reliability punctuality and accountabilityFriendly flexible and comfortable interacting with students faculty and staffStrong communication skillsEligible to work in the United StatesAbility to work independently on projectsComfortable learning basic library procedures and student-facing technologiesInterest in marketing social media or student engagement preferredAbility to sit stand or walk in public service areas for periods of time Application Process:All interested applicants should complete an online application and provide a resume.
