Classification Title:Library West User Services-Federal Work Study Student AssistantClassification Minimum Requirements:This position is open to all UF degree-seeking students registered at least half-time and must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. A current Federal Work Study (FWS) award is required.Job Description:Hours:8-12 hours per weekWork Schedule:The hours for this position will fall between the open hours of Library West and will include shifts on the weekends and closing.Monday-Thursday 8:00am-1:15amFriday 8:00am-10:00pmSaturday 10:00am-6:00pmSunday 10:00am-1:15amLibrary West User Services is looking for friendly dependable individuals to join our Student Assistant team for the Spring 2026 semester. Student Assistants play a key part in providing positive experiences for students staff visitors and contractors at the University of Florida.As one of the public faces of the Smathers Libraries Student Assistants welcome visitors at the Circulation Desk and share information about our library resources; assist with troubleshooting; work on special projects as needed; and loan and return library materials.Weekly schedules are set at the beginning of the semester but may vary based on library hours. Shifts will include closing hours and weekend availability is required.Job DutiesPublic service library duties including:Staffs the circulation desk on the second floor of Library WestSearches the UF catalog to determine the location of library materials and if they are available for checkoutFollows policy and procedure when checking outand returning library materialsSearches retrieves checks out and returns course reserve materialsAnswers telephone calls and provides directional assistance for patronsAssists patrons with general questions and refers them to other staff or faculty members when neededAssists patrons with operation of printers scanners workstations and other equipmentAssists with other general library duties and/or projects such as shelving returned materials or supporting other departmentsReports missing itemsKeeps workstation clean sanitized and stockedPeriodically patrols the library to collect browsed library materials and reports maintenance or technological equipment issues to supervisorsPeriodically patrols the library to uphold library policies as neededAssists staff memberswithweekend and weekday closing proceduresand/or weekend opening proceduresAssistsin creating displaysand other crafts as overseen by staffExpected Salary:$14.50 per hourRequired Qualifications:Federal Work Study Program REQUIRED - NO EXCEPTIONS!Must be dependable punctual detail-oriented and courteousMust be able to work weekends and closing shiftsAbility to manage time and commitments including scheduled work hoursAbility to follow detailed instructionsStrong oral and written communication skillsExperience with technological skills and applicationsMust be able to lift and push up to 25lbsPreferred:Previous experience in any library settingPrevious customer service experienceGood database and web searching skillsKnowledge of UF Libraries Catalog and databasesComfortable in Windows operating systemPrevious experience with management applications(Microsoft Teams Outlook)Ability to work independently once trainedSpecial Instructions to Applicants:Applicants must attach a screenshot of their valid current Federal Work Study Program eligibility and a copy of their Spring 2026 class scheduleIn order to be considered you must upload your resume list of 3 references and submit your available hours to work which must fall within the work schedule posted above.Application must be submitted by 11:55 p.m. (ET) of the posting end date.Health Assessment Required:No Key Skills Anti Money Laundering,Access Control System,Catering,Assessment,Communication Employment Type : Student Experience: years Vacancy: 1
