Position Details
Role Title: Licensing Manager
Location: Bessemer, AL - on-site (will assist with relocation)
Target Salary: open depending on experience - $90-150k+
Team Size: 1-3 Direct Reports

Position Summary
The Licensing Manager will oversee and manage all licensing requirements across the company's Design, Manufacturing, and Construction operations.
This role ensures the organization maintains compliance with municipal, state, and federal licensing regulations governing construction activities, professional trades, and facility operations.
The Licensing Manager will lead a small team responsible for monitoring, applying for, renewing, and maintaining licenses critical to operating seamlessly and legally across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities
Licensing & Compliance
  • Oversee all licensing activities related to construction, trades, and manufacturing operations.
  • Manage municipal, state, and national licensing requirements for:

o Construction contracting
o Trades certifications (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.)
o Professional and business licenses
o Facility and manufacturing compliance licenses
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of licensing requirements across relevant jurisdictions.
  • Ensure timely submission and renewal of all required licenses to minimize operational risk from expired or lapsed authorizations.


Leadership & Team Management
  • Manage and mentor a team of 1-3 licensing specialists.
  • Distribute workloads, establish priorities, and ensure accuracy in license tracking and documentation.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, attention to detail, and proactive compliance management.


Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Design, Manufacturing, and Construction teams to anticipate licensing needs tied to new projects, expansions, or market entries.
  • Work closely with Legal, HR, and Operations to ensure individual and organizational licensing requirements align with state and municipal regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for licensing authorities, regulatory bodies, and inspectors.


Systems & Documentation
  • Develop and maintain a centralized licensing management system to track application dates, renewal cycles, and jurisdiction-specific requirements.
  • Provide regular reports to leadership on:

o Licensing status
o Upcoming renewals
o Potential compliance risks
  • Standardize documentation processes to improve efficiency and ensure audit readiness.


Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of municipal and state-level construction and trades licensing requirements.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks and regulatory processes within construction and manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple licenses and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with digital tools and systems used for license tracking and compliance management.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
Experience
  • 5+ years managing licensing and compliance in construction, manufacturing, or design environments.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising a small team.
