Job DescriptionThe Role: We are looking for an expert Sr Design Release Engineer - Lidar to join our team and help us build the best automated vehicles in the world.Lead the development testing of a new Lidar supplier to meet the future needs of next generation automated driving program. Responsible for resolving technical challenges while meeting cost targets.In addition to the development of the component they will also facilitate the integration of the associated hardware and software into the vehicle architecture. They will lead regular product development team (PDT) meetings and be responsible for meeting development milestones.Theoretical and practical knowledge of Lidar and optical sensors is required. Operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy administering and coordinating programs counseling and advising management.As a fully-qualified individual contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function you will provide expert judgment and analysis for the design development and implementation of technical products and systems.Resolve highly complex technical issues and conducts advanced research.Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.What Youll Do:DRE for Lidar including all elements of hardware and calibrationsSystem level understanding of functionality being supported including ability to root cause issuesCapable of organizing and driving design for manufacturing initiativesDevelops component technical specifications as well as statement of requirements and subsystem technical specifications as requiredLeads formal design peer and quality reviewsLeads resolution of technical issuesLeads product development team meetingsLeads/manages supplier resident engineersWorks closely with the Purchasing organization to support sourcing activitiesSupports vehicle Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) activitiesPrimary GM engineering interface with the component suppliersKnowledge of hardware and software interfacesEnsure all vehicle program imperatives (cost timing investment and quality) are metGenerates technical solutions for current new and major programsProvides technical leadership for advanced technology development and can perform complex design and packaging analysisDevelops engineering designs (including subsystems) and implements engineering changesInitiates document to provide engineering approval and to maintain math dataWorks with engineering functions suppliers plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction methods and product improvements and to support build programsPlans and implements validation and/or development programsReleases parts and subsystems for productionCommunicates information to and from internal and external customer organizationsCoordinates and consults with departments outside engineering such as manufacturingYour Skills & Abilities:Bachelors Degree in Engineering Physics Math Computer Science or Chemistry and 3 years of engineering experience in a related fieldWorking Knowledge of Matlab/Python/C experienceHigh level of oral and written communication skillsUnderstanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of computer/electrical mechanismsDemonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area requiredExhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goalsHigh level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complexHigh level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with othersWhat Will Give You a Competitive Edge:Masters/PhD Degree in Engineering5 years of development experience with Lidar or other Optical sensors or similar systems is highly preferred.Automotive safety critical electronics experience
