This a dynamic and stimulating place to work, focused on excellence in research, education and patient care and the LSRP 3/4 would be a welcome addition to strengthen the groups efforts. The Czechowicz lab is focused on hematopoietic stem cell biology and further exploring how hematopoietic stem cells interact with their microenvironment through basic science and translational medicine particularly in bone marrow failure, immune deficiencies and/or leukemia to ultimately improve outcomes for these patients and many others. The laboratory has previously conducted pioneering work demonstrating that hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) depletion is a critical component to donor HSC engraftment. They have developed multiple pre-clinical agents that enable safe and targeted HSC conditioning, several of which are turning into promising clinical therapies. They are now using these agents as probes to understand underlying hematopoietic biology and are applying these to the treatment of candidate diseases of great need. They are further augmenting this work with complementary efforts in therapeutic gene modification. They are primarily focused on genetic and malignant blood and immune diseases (e. g. immunodeficiencies, bone marrow failure and leukemia), but this work could also potentially be expanded to other organ systems as well. The ideal candidate would be able to seamlessly integrate into the group to lead basic and translational projects, including assessment of correlative studies from clinical trials. They would also be able to oversee others, lead large collaborative projects and support with research proposals/grant funding.
