Job Details
We are looking for a sharp, organized Legal Assistant to support a busy Partner whose practice spans complex civil litigation with a strong emphasis on healthcare and medical professional liability defense. This role moves fast - you'll be supporting active caseloads from intake through trial, working closely with one attorney who values a highly capable assistant who can anticipate needs and keep things running smoothly. The role is temp-to-perm or direct hire depending on fit.
In-office full time during onboarding (approximately the first month); schedule flexibility may be available after you've found your rhythm and demonstrated your capabilities.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive day-to-day administrative and litigation support to a senior attorney
Manage and organize case files, correspondence, and legal documents across an active docket
Coordinate scheduling including depositions, hearings, expert appointments, and internal meetings
Prepare, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, and court filings
Track deadlines and court dates; maintain calendars with precision and follow-through
Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and experts
Assist with discovery organization, bates stamping, and document management
Handle e-filing and ensure compliance with court rules and procedural requirements
Manage incoming mail, phone calls, and general correspondence
Support trial preparation as needed
Qualifications
Prior experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal in a litigation setting strongly preferred
Familiarity with medical malpractice, personal injury, or civil defense matters is a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel); experience with legal practice management software a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines without losing composure
Professional, discreet, and client-service oriented
Must be a self-starter who takes initiative and doesn't wait to be told what needs to be done
Requirements
Full-time, in-office availability required for the first month of employment
Hybrid flexibility may follow based on performance and workflow
Must be available to start promptly - this is an active need (temp or perm placement welcome)
