Logistics Coordinator

Monitor the movement of inbound and outbound railcars to ensure timely placement, loading, unloading, and release. Track railcar status and proactively manage congestion, delays, or shortages. Communicate directly with railroads regarding railcar flow issues, diversions, service disruptions, and recovery plans. Provide accurate and timely estimated times of arrival (ETAs) for railcars to sales and internal stakeholders. Waybill outbound railcars in accordance with railroad requirements and customer shipping instructions. Ensure accuracy of shipping documentation to support proper routing, billing, and delivery. Coordinate with shipping and receiving departments to align physical movements with system records. Review and work with Accounts Payables team to process open rail invoices for payment. Identify billing discrepancies and dispute incorrect charges directly with railroads. Work with internal accounting or AP teams to resolve invoicing issues efficiently. Communicate daily with the site's shipping and receiving teams to align rail activity with production and yard operations. Partner with the sales team to match available railcars to new customer orders. Work closely with metal scrap buyers to manage the supply and positioning of railcars to external scrap yards. Host and participate in meetings with sales and operations to provide updates and overviews of rail operations, constraints, and performance. Maintain accurate tracking of railcar inventories, movements, and commitments. Provide periodic rail operations updates, including car supply, ETAs, and risk areas impacting orders. Support continuous improvement efforts related to rail efficiency, cost control, and service reliability.
Experience working in a steel mill, metals, or heavy industrial environment. Familiarity with rail freight billing, demurrage, and railroad service terms. Experience coordinating scrap or raw material rail movements. Experience in rail logistics, transportation coordination, or industrial supply chain operations. Strong understanding of railcar movements, waybilling, and railroad operations. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, operations driven environment. Strong communication skills with the ability to work across operations, sales, and external partners. Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in documentation and billing. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and logistics or transportation systems.
High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant experience required.
