The Bush School does not offer visa sponsorship for this position and will not consider applicants who require visa sponsorship.The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Upper School team as an Upper School Science Faculty member. We are seeking a candidate who will support the schools mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that displays and proves an understanding of cultural fluency. We encourage those of diverse backgrounds to apply.The Upper School Science Faculty member reports to the Upper School Director and works closely with students and families as well as Upper School Faculty and Staff and the Science Department. This position will be responsible for teaching three sections of introductory chemistry and one section of introductory biology for the duration of the engagement.While other duties may be assigned a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:Create and sustain a positive classroom culture based on the mission and values of the schoolPlan prepare and deliver instructional activities for Upper School science courses that facilitate active learning experiences in a student-driven inquiry-based manner. Preparation is done in conjunction with co-teachers and with existing curriculum.Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and within the curriculumEstablish classroom expectations that create a safe and comfortable environment for all studentsCreate and sustain effective family partnerships for example: communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom news via formal spring conferences written communications and school portalObserve/evaluate/assess students development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growthAttend and chaperone school related events outside the scheduled school dayParticipate actively and with curiosity in school/division/department/committee meetings as well as student community gatherings during the school dayCollaborate with school counselors and learning specialists to plan lessons curriculum materials and resources to effectively serve students with different learning profiles and mental health needsCollaborate with other members of the science faculty to create common experiences centered on student inquiryUtilize technology to support student success (e.g. Google Docs Blackbaud Canvas etc.)Conscientiously complete other duties as assignedExperience and Professional Competencies:Experience teaching science is required with 3 or more years preferredA bachelors degree is required with a science major or related subject area preferredA graduate degree in science education or related field preferredSuccessful candidates will have:A philosophy that aligns with the schools mission and values please review the schools mission and values on our website ()The capacity and desire to engage in experiential activities and programs with studentsThe ability to be patient and positive and find joy in the journey of promoting a lifelong love of learningAn ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with others including administrators colleagues staff students and families in order to maintain constructive and professional relationshipsA commitment to completing work in a timely and thorough manner while being conscientious about assignments and deadlinesA willingness to participate in professional growth/development opportunitiesHave proficient skills in the use of technology: including but not limited to Microsoft Suite Google Drive and OutlookAdditional Requirements:Have a current Adult and Children CPR First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)Meet the schools standards when completing two separate background screeningsMeet the schools COVID vaccination requirements.
