Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:Job PurposeThe LYH Behavior Technician provides clinical and educational programming to students with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders within a classroom of up to eight to twelve students using the principles of applied behavior analysis.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPreparation/MaterialsAssists in creating materials as instructed by Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Special Education TeacherEnsures that materials are well organized, complete, and replaced as neededAlerts BCBA or Special Education Teacher if materials may need to be ordered prior to running out TeachingRuns instructional sessions independentlyRuns educational programs accuratelyPerforms error correction procedure accuratelyTakes advantage of natural teaching opportunitiesImplements behavior support plans accuratelyManages other challenging behaviors effectivelyImplements additional protocols accurately (e.g., medicine, diet, toileting)Supervises higher ratios of learners during lunch or other non-instructional periodsProvides instruction in 1:1, 1:2, or small group arrangements Communication Maintains home/school contact (e.g., daily communication logs)Participates in classroom, team, and all staff meetings as requestedCoordinates and collaborates with learner’s related service personnel as applicableCommunicates with supervisors about problem programs and behaviorMaintains weekly schedule and communicates availability to supervisor as requiredData Collection and Analysis Collects data accurately, quickly, and consistently Maintains accurate graphs in electronic data collection systemUpdates all program information in data sheets and/or electronic data collection system in a timely mannerAlerts BCBA or Special Education Teacher if data is variable or if no progress has been made for assigned studentsProfessionalism Arrives on time for workShows flexibility to changeHas a positive attitude towards students and staff membersAdheres to safety protocolsMakes prudent use of sick/personal timeAssists with special projects and assignments as requestedTakes on additional responsibilities when work is completeAssists in keeping common spaces clean and organizedAccepts feedback and constructive criticismAdheres to the mission, vision and values of VIASchool Inclusion (If Applicable) Safely transports learners to other school for instruction as requested/requiredUses discretion with prompts while in inclusion settingPromotes independence in inclusion settingModifies school curriculum when necessaryFacilitates communication with peers in inclusion settingFacilitates communication with inclusion staffCollects data when necessary in inclusion settingNotifies supervisor when support programs are neededRepresents VIA with professionalismCommunity- Based Education/ Vocational Training (If Applicable) Safely transports learners to community settings as requested/requiredUses discretion with prompts while in publicPromotes independence and competence with skillsTakes advantage of natural teaching opportunities in publicInteracts appropriately with other community membersCollects data when necessary in communityManages learners’ valuables including money and personal belongingsLeaves and arrives on time for community-based programsNotifies supervisor when support programs are neededRepresents VIA with professionalismPosition TypeThis is a full-time position. This position involves working with students who exhibit challenging and/or aggressive behavior and participation in community outings. Requirements:QualificationsValid driver’s license requiredHigh school diploma or equivalency requiredBachelor’s degree preferredExperience in the application of applied behavior analysis (ABA) in the education of students with autism is preferred
