The MA Lead and Trainer in a pediatric clinic setting is required to perform all duties of the Medical Assistant and functions as the resource person and trainer to the non-licensed staff. The lead acts as a liaison between management and staff and is responsible for training new medical assistants on pediatric-specific protocols and procedures. The MA Lead and Trainer assists with patient care providing first level counseling to staff and training on pediatric care best practices. Keeps manager apprised of early personnel issues and training needs. This position is a Monday - Friday and includes Saturday rotations. Hours will be determined with clinic leadership to ensure appropriate coverage at open and close.

  • Demonstrates competency and professional responsibility in the medical assistant role with focus on pediatric care
  • Takes action based on constructive performance evaluations staff development and training
  • Maintains confidentiality when interacting with pediatric patients, families, personnel and the public
  • Ensures personnel are competent in their job responsibility through orientation, training, skills evaluation, annual competencies
  • Develops and implements training programs for medical assistants specific to pediatric care
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of P&P manual and trains staff on implementation
  • Maintains positive public relations image with peers, patients and visitors by presenting a positive, helpful attitude
  • Maintains a neat, clean and functional workstation
  • Trains staff on principles of body mechanics in mobilizing objects and pediatric patients
  • Has working knowledge and location of policy and Procedure manuals and ensures staff training on:
    1. Safety
    2. Infection control
    3. Administration
    4. MSDS manual
    5. Disaster
    6. Clinic/Practice-specific pediatric protocols
  • Coordinates and leads staff meetings and training sessions as required
  • Completes required certifications; becomes proficient in clinic systems and procedures, and maintains knowledge in all policies, practices and procedures related to pediatric care.
  • Follows all HIPAA standards, policies and procedures and ensures staff compliance
  • Performs duties to achieve or exceed established service standards.
  • Conducts regular training sessions on pediatric-specific medical protocols, including but not limited to:
    1. Proper vaccination procedures and documentation
    2. Pediatric vital signs and growth chart tracking
    3. Age-appropriate communication with children and parents
    4. Common pediatric conditions and appropriate responses

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) or other similar healthcare program with experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Maintain certifications per state guidelines
  • Strong computer skills required. EMR experience required
  • Current BLS and/or PALS card
  • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor staff

Preferred Education/Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in pediatric healthcare
  • Training or teaching experience
  • Experience with pediatric-specific EMR systems
  • Experience with childhood vaccination management
  • Nationally recognized as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has training responsibilities but no direct supervisory authority but will be the daily contact for Medical Assistants.

  • Occasionally required to walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • May need to lift and position children for examinations
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

This position will be posted for a minimum of 5 days and may be extended.

Salary: $23 - $31
