JOB DESCRIPTION

Machine Operator

Set up and operate heading machinery to forge heads on steel rods used for the production of large anchor bolts and fasteners for the construction industry. You will heat the end of the steel rod to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit using induction heating coils and then place it in the heading machine to form the hex head of the bolt. Additionally, you will inspect the finished parts for quality once cooled. Provided PPE must be worn, including special gloves, safety glasses, and ear plugs. The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs throughout the day as the rods are handled by hand. The position offers flexibility, allowing for either day shift or swing shift, with regular scheduled hours from 6am-2:30pm, Monday-Friday on days, and 2:30pm-11pm, Monday-Friday on swing. While the preference is for swing shift, finding the right fit for the department is paramount.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate heading machinery to forge steel rods.
  • Heat steel rods to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit using induction heating coils.
  • Place heated rods in the heading machine to form hex heads.
  • Inspect finished parts for quality once cooled.
  • Handle rods manually, requiring the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in machine operation.
  • Experience in production, manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use hand tools.
  • General labor skills and inspection experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have manufacturing and machine operation experience.
  • Voluntary overtime offered if desired.

Work Environment:

The work environment is very clean for a machine shop, located in an enclosed but uninsulated building/pole barn that can get cooler in winter and warmer in summers. The shop is friendly and laid back, promoting a comfortable work atmosphere.

Job Type & Location:

This is a contract to hire position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $22.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
