Job Description The Fleet Maintenance Manager leads a team of maintenance technicians and support staff to ensure all fleet vehicles, facilities, and company-owned tools are maintained, repaired, and cleaned in a safe, timely, and efficient manner. This role oversees all aspects of fleet and building maintenance, including preventive maintenance programs, quality of workmanship, and adherence to safety standards. The position requires strong diesel mechanical expertise, the ability to prioritize operational demands, and the judgment to make independent decisions while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Work Environment
This role operates primarily within a fleet maintenance facility that supports bus and coach operations. You will work closely with a team of mechanics, technicians, and support staff in a shop environment that involves hands-on work around heavy-duty diesel vehicles, tools, and equipment. The environment is fast-paced and operationally driven, requiring flexibility to respond to changing priorities and real-time maintenance needs. You will regularly use fleet management systems, telematics tools, MS Office applications, and other technology platforms to plan, schedule, and track maintenance activities. Safety is a core focus, with an emphasis on eliminating hazardous conditions and ensuring proper use of tools and equipment. The setting may include both indoor shop areas and outdoor yard spaces where vehicles are parked, inspected, and serviced.

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $89000.00 - $140000.00/yr.

Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to maintenance employees and support staff to ensure all fleet service requirements are completed safely, on time, and to a high standard of quality.
- Oversee and coordinate all activities related to repair, preventive maintenance, cleaning, inspection, bodywork, and other related functions for buses, coaches, trucks, and associated equipment.
- Prioritize repair orders and operational demands so that vehicles are safe, clean, reliable, and available to meet scheduled service while consistently exceeding customer expectations.
- Ensure building maintenance and company-owned tools are properly maintained, safe, and in good working order to support ongoing maintenance operations.
- Develop, train, mentor, and coach maintenance employees to improve their technical skills, performance, and engagement, while recognizing and rewarding strong performance.
- Implement, communicate, and enforce safety policies and procedures, ensuring all employees follow safe work practices at all times.
- Identify and eliminate hazardous working conditions in the shop and yard, taking corrective action to maintain a safe work environment.
- Ensure technicians have access to the proper tools, equipment, and resources required to perform their work safely, efficiently, and to specification.
- Perform quality control checks on vehicles and equipment before they return to service, verifying that repairs and maintenance meet company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Use fleet management systems, telematics, and other technology to plan, schedule, and track maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Oversee parts management and inventory processes, ensuring critical parts and supplies are available and controlled to minimize downtime and manage costs.
- Develop and maintain reports and performance indicators to monitor maintenance effectiveness, productivity, and compliance with preventive maintenance schedules.
- Support process management and change management initiatives to improve maintenance workflows, efficiency, and overall fleet performance.
- Collaborate with other departments to address operational needs, resolve issues, and support continuous improvement across the fleet operation.
- Make timely, informed decisions to resolve maintenance issues, minimize service disruptions, and maintain fleet readiness.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the maintenance function and overall operational objectives.
- Strong mechanical diesel maintenance experience working on trucks, buses, or other large diesel vehicles.
- 3+ years of industry experience in fleet maintenance management or operations within the auto/diesel industry.
- Heavy-duty fleet experience with prior technician or mechanic background.
- Hands-on experience with diesel engines, diesel engine repair, and diesel equipment.
- Proficiency in fleet maintenance management, including preventive maintenance, repair planning, and fleet readiness.
- Experience managing, training, and coaching mechanics and maintenance staff.
- Demonstrated management skills, including supervision, performance oversight, and goal achievement.
- Experience with process management and change management in a maintenance or operations environment.
- Familiarity with telematics and onboarding applications used in fleet operations.
- Working knowledge of transmissions, electrical systems, and related vehicle components.
- Experience in planning and scheduling maintenance activities.
- Skills in parts management and parts inventory control.
- Proficiency with MS Office and fleet management systems.
- Ability to solve problems and make real-time decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Ability to lead employees to perform high-quality work and exceed expectations.
