The Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) team is looking for a passionate talented and inventive Senior Applied Science Manager who will play a key role in the next generation of AI powered foundation models.Key job responsibilitiesLead and manage a team of applied and research scientists and language engineers data linguists responsible for building foundation models.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that Amazons AI models are aligned with human preferences.Identify and prioritize research opportunities that have the potential to significantly impact our AI systems.Mentor and guide team members to achieve their career goals and objectives.Communicate research findings and progress to senior leadership and stakeholders.- 10 years of building large-scale machine learning and AI solutions at Internet scale experience- Masters degree in Computer Science (Machine Learning AI Statistics or equivalent)- Experience building large-scale machine learning and AI solutions at Internet scale- Experience distilling informal customer requirements into problem definitions dealing with ambiguity and competing objectives- Experience hiring and leading experienced scientists as well as having a successful record of developing junior members from academia or industry to a successful career track- Experience managing and or coordinating projects in a fast pace environment- Can communicate effectively with all levels of the organization- Experience leading mentoring and growing teams of scientists (teams of five or more scientists)- 10 years of practical work applying ML to solve complex problems for large-scale applications experience- 5 years of people management experience- PhD in Computer Science (Machine Learning AI Statistics or equivalent)- Experience in practical work applying ML to solve complex problems for large scale applications- Experience with Java C or other programming language as well as with R MATLAB Python or an equivalent scripting language- Experience with building applications using large language modelsAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status disability or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. The base pay for this position ranges from $196900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $340300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
