JOB DESCRIPTION

Master Mechanic - Friction & Hydraulic Cranes

Location: Bourg / Houma, Louisiana

We are seeking an experienced Master Mechanic - Friction & Hydraulic Cranes to join our team supporting marine construction and heavy lifting operations. This senior-level role is based at a shipyard in Bourg, LA, with responsibilities spanning both yard maintenance and on-site vessel support.

We're looking for someone with a strong work ethic, commitment to safety, and a collaborative, team-oriented attitude.


Pay Range

$25 - $50 per hour (based on experience)

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in friction crane mechanics

  • At least 5 years of hydraulic crane experience

  • Master-level troubleshooting skills for mobile and pedestal-mounted cranes

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926 Subpart CC regulations

  • Ability to read and interpret:

    • Hydraulic schematics

    • Electrical diagrams

  • Physically capable of:

    • Lifting heavy components

    • Working at heights and in confined spaces

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to vessels or job sites


Preferred Qualifications

  • NCCCO Crane Inspector certification or similar credentials

  • Shipyard or offshore construction experience

  • Welding and fabrication skills

  • TWIC card


Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on heavy lift cranes (e.g., Clyde, Dravo, American, Manitowoc, Link-Belt, Liebherr)

  • Perform full overhauls of:

    • Engines

    • Winches

    • Clutches

    • Gearboxes

    • Swing drives

    • Booms

  • Conduct preventive maintenance to ensure safety and minimize downtime

  • Interpret technical manuals, load charts, schematics, and OEM documentation

  • Maintain detailed service records in compliance with USCG, OSHA, and API standards

  • Supervise and mentor junior mechanics and apprentices

  • Coordinate with vendors and OEM technicians for parts and major repairs

  • Ensure all work meets company safety standards and procedures

  • Respond to emergency breakdowns in the yard, field, or aboard vessels
