This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Springhill on a full-time basis.The role:The Material Industrial Engineer is an integral part to daily and future Global Supply Chain (GSC) operations. The Material Industrial Engineer will lead Lean Material Strategies (LMS) initiatives at Spring Hill GPS and serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for daily and future material automation applications.Work is of a technical nature and focused on making complex manufacturing processes more efficient, which involves understanding the systematic cross functionality of several departments, including engine machining, engine assembly, and Global Supply Chain. Significant use of independent judgment is required, as well as the ability to think critically and creatively to solve problems and drive projects forward.The Material Industrial Engineer will lead and support complex supply chain projects, particularly material automation projects, that involve collaboration between several in-plant departments, Headquarters engineering organizations, UAW team members, and third-party suppliers and contractors. Exceptional communication and relationship building skills are essential for success in this role.What you'll do:Automation Projects:Lead the scoping, planning, and execution of large-scale material automation projects that drive reductions to labor costs and/or increases to operational efficienciesCollaborate with Headquarters engineering groups to develop business cases, Statements of Work (SOW), and Statements of Requirement (SOR) for new cost saving projects, particularly material automation projects and projects that support LMSAnalyze data used for simulations to evaluate material automation feasibility and capabilityBuild systems to ensure safe and efficient human interaction with material automationAnalyze labor utilizations and implement job rebalances using GMOS, STDS, and APSPartner with engineering, operations, and other organizations to design new material packaging, gravity flow racks, dollies, and material staging stands to ensure designs meet quality, safety, ergonomic, and throughput requirementsSupport the configuration of automation workflows with robotic cells, other material automation vendors, and material pull systemsStrategize interim-state installation plans to ensure production targets are metParticipate in safety buyoff processes, including g-Risks and g-Comply, for new equipment and automationTravel to equipment suppliers as needed to support the runoff (equipment specification testing) processPartner with several stakeholder groups to support the automation installation process, including Start of Regular Production (SORP)Support large-scale production projects that involve the introduction of robotic cells, cobots, and other automated assembly line equipment as neededMaterial Automation Operations:Program and make logic and systematic changes to a fleet of automated mobile equipment from multiple vendorsContinuously improve material delivery routes for automation and driversLeverage data to provide root cause analysis for complex material automation faults and inefficienciesDrive Throughput Improvement Process (TIP) improvements for a fleet of automated mobile equipment using data analyticsServe as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for, train, and provide guidance to a team of UAW material automation attendantsStandardize material automation fault recovery strategies and Preventative Maintenance (PM) tasksEstablish material automation sustainment strategies, including spare parts planning, coordinating software updates, and coordinating supplier technician supportGSC Operations:Continuously improve dock, material staging, and warehouse layouts and operationsAnalyze existing operations and drive continuous improvements (CI) to processes and jobs with collaboration from UAW team membersLead and support Operational Excellence projectsMonitor adherence to recommended Safety procedures and ergonomics guidelinesYour Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain, or a related degree, or equivalent experience2+ years of work or educational experience in data analytics2+ years of work or educational experience in automation, robotics, or general programming1+ years of work or educational experience in supply chain1+ years of work or educational experience in human factors (time studies, ergonomics, human-computer interaction, etc.)High level of interpersonal skillsHigh level of communication and project management skillsDemonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problemsExperience leading large and difficult projects with a high level of autonomyAbility to work off-shift, weekends, or overtime to support project implementations or to make material automation programming changesWhat will give you a competitive edge (Preferred Qualifications):2+ years of manufacturing experienceProficiency in material automation programmingProficiency in understanding material automation lidar, camera, safety, and localization systemsProficiency in AutoCAD or other computer-aided drafting and layout toolsExperience working in a unionized manufacturing environmentLean Six Sigma Green Belt certificationCompensation:The expected base compensation for this role is: 77,500.00 - 121,600.00 USD Annual. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.Benefits:Benefits: GM offers a variety of health and wellbeing benefit programs.
