Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To perform cutting and preparation, meat stocking and rotation, and provide customer service and department cleaning duties. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for employees.NATURE AND SCOPE: Emphasis in this position is to meet daily production needs and quality standards in meat cutting and preparation. Primary learning challenge is learning retail cutting techniques for all meat cuts, proficiency with the saw and merchandising techniques. This position requires ongoing heavy lifting, standing, operation of meat equipment, exposure to cold temperatures and wet surfaces, judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interactions, listening skills, and reading. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. The Meat Manager or person in charge provides assignments and work direction.ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONSPerform meat cutting and preparationFollow daily cutting lists and complete work in allotted timeDemonstrate proficiency in sawing, boning, cutting, trimming, grinding, weighing, traying and wrapping techniquesMaintain Sendik’s Fine Foods quality and trim standardsAssist customers with requests and informationEnsure customer satisfactionAssist with special orders, product information and location, also service counterMaintain meat casesPull outdated product and properly rotateRestock as needed to maintain maximum selectionFollow merchandising planClean and sanitize equipment, cases, work area, and sales floorBreak down equipment according to proceduresContinuously monitor area and sales floor for cleanlinessUtilize personal protective devices (rain suit, over boots, chemical splash goggles, metal mesh gloves, chemical resistant gloves), as instructedReceive and process meat shipments correctlyVerify product with invoice and logEnsure product meets quality standardsFollow proper security measuresKeep cooler properly rotated and organizedAssist in placing ordersAssist in training employeesFollow all store and department policies and proceduresFUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTSPhysicalLifting/carrying up to 100 lbs.Pushing/pulling up to 2000 lbs.Equipment operation (meat saw, bone scraper, knives, slicer, scales, pallet jack, flat bed, meat grinder, cuber, patty machine, tenderizer, bulker, meat mixer, telephone)Reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, standing, turning, climbing ladders, walking, MentalJudgment/decision makingListening skillsSocial skills/verbal interactionReading, writing, mathMemorizationEnvironmentalWorking in cold conditionsWorking with hot equipmentIMPORTANT DISCLOSURE NOTICEThe job duties, elements, responsibilities, skills, functions, experience, educational factors, and the requirements and conditions listed in this job description are representative only and not exhaustive of the tasks that an employee may be required to perform.
