Mechanic II
Pay Rate: $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
Position Overview:
As a Mechanic II, you will perform routine diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and moderate repairs on company vehicles and equipment. You'll work with minimal supervision, using your knowledge of vehicle systems, basic welding, and fabrication techniques to keep our fleet running smoothly. In addition, you'll support daily operations, troubleshoot issues, and mentor Mechanic I team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform intermediate-level PM services, brake replacements, suspension work, cooling system repairs, minor electrical fixes, and basic welding (e.g., brackets, exhaust components).
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Use diagnostic tools to assess performance issues, fault codes, and drivability concerns. Identify and recommend solutions based on inspections and test results.
- Shop Operations: Maintain a safe, clean work environment, assist with inventory and parts ordering, and ensure compliance with DOT and safety standards.
- Mentorship & Team Support: Provide guidance to Mechanic I team members, helping enforce shop standards and offering informal training.
- Documentation: Accurately log work orders, inspections, and service records in fleet management software (e.g., Fleetio).
- Collaboration: Work with operations and logistics to schedule repairs without disrupting service.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; automotive/diesel technology program completion preferred.
- Experience: 2+ years in vehicle/equipment maintenance, especially landscaping equipment (trucks, trailers, mowers, skid steers).
- Certifications: Valid driver's license required; ASE, DOT brake inspections encouraged. CDL is a plus.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Intermediate knowledge of vehicle systems and tools
- Ability to read service manuals, diagrams, and checklists
- Strong attention to detail, safety, and time management
Key Performance Metrics:
- Quality and accuracy of repairs
- First-pass diagnostic accuracy and repair completion
- Timely completion of scheduled maintenance
- Adherence to safety and documentation standards
Working Conditions:
- Work in a shop/yard environment with exposure to equipment, fluids, and outdoor elements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, use hand tools, and perform manual tasks
- Hours: Primarily Tuesday to Saturday, with early mornings, evenings, or emergency responses as needed. Occasional local travel for roadside service.
