Position Summary

The Back Office Medical Assistant supports Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners in delivering high-quality patient care. This role is responsible for patient intake, clinical support, documentation, and maintaining a safe and efficient clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Support

  • Welcome patients and prepare them for visits

  • Room patients, obtain medical history, and verify information

  • Record accurate vital signs

  • Assist providers during examinations and treatments

  • Perform point-of-care testing within certification and state guidelines

  • Disinfect and clean exam rooms between patients

  • Maintain exam room and storage supplies

Documentation & EMR Management

  • Accurately populate all EMR sections including:

    • Allergies

    • Medications

    • Vaccines

    • Social history

    • Quality metrics

  • Manage provider and personal EMR inbox messages

  • Complete pre-visit planning per SOP guidelines

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Maintain required logs (refrigerator temps, emergency meds, oxygen, expired meds)

  • Check and address voicemails throughout the day

  • Back up front office as needed (check-in/out, scheduling, phones)

  • Maintain vendor relationships

  • Follow HIPAA and compliance standards

  • Attend required trainings and meetings

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Graduate of accredited healthcare program (Medical Assistant, CNA, LPN, EMT) or equivalent work experience of (typically two years of hands on medical assistant training)

  • Current BLS Certification

  • Strong computer skills

  • Some Medical Assistant experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

  • 1–3 years of experience in Family Medicine or Pediatrics

  • Experience with Athenahealth (EMR/Practice Management System)

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing and use of hands

  • Occasional walking, sitting, kneeling, or crouching

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and 25+ pounds occasionally

  • Close and distance vision with focus adjustment capability

Compensation

$21 – $27 per hour

Final compensation is based on experience, skillset, and internal equity considerations.
