With 250 clinicians and 110 locations in 7 states were thriving growing and looking to add talented individuals to our team!We are currently looking for a Surgical Medical Assistant to join the team at one of our North Carolina practices Atlantic Dermatology (). Atlantic Dermatology now an affiliate of Anne Arundel Dermatology has 5 locations in the Wilmington area and offers comprehensive medical skin care services to our patients. Whether our patients need treatment for a chronic skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis a screening for cancer or a youth-enhancing injectable such as Botox or Restylane the staff at Atlantic Dermatology can provide them with the best in care from head to toe. With more than 80 years of combined experience the team at Atlantic Dermatology provides our patients with quality care in a professional friendly and educational environment.ResponsibilitiesThis position will work with one of our Mohs Surgeons assisting during surgery as well as in the clinic for post-surgical follow up appointments.Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Guide patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking preparing for exam etc. Collect patient information/history; taking vitals performing screenings per provider guidelines.Prepare procedure rooms and surgical trays with all supplies needed for procedures.Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all company policies and proceduresComplete pre-operative intake via one-on-one interview explain surgical procedures and answer any questions within your scope.Prepare paperwork for patients current visit and ensure complete and accurate documentation within the patients electronic medical recordDrape and disinfect surgical site administer local anesthesia and use a handheld cautery device to achieve hemostasisAssist physician during all procedures (passing instruments blotting cutting sutures etc)Bandage surgical sites prepare proper discharge paperwork review wound care instructions with patient and answer any questions or concerns they may haveClean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization in an autoclaveCollect and accurately process specimensOther duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.QualificationsRequired Skills/Abilities:Able to triage patient problems.Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.Experience administering injections.Knowledge of medical terminology CPT and ICD-10 codes.Knowledge of office financial policies.Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer fax copier scanner etc)Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Fluent in EnglishAbility to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful Ability to work in an effective cooperative and courteous manner with staff patients and visitors.Must be able to travel to satellite offices as neededAbility to multi-task prioritize appropriately and work well both individually and as part of a teamAbility to read understand and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to spell sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically. Licensure/Certifications/EducationEducation and Experience:High School Graduate or GED required.Completion of a Medical Assistant Program Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelors degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.CPR certified preferred.1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant Certified Nursing Assistant or other clinical patient care experience preferred. Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.Physical Requirements:Standing and walking for extended periods of timeModerate amount of talking bending twisting reaching and balancing.Use of hands and fingers.Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.Handling of materials such as paper supplies etc.Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
