Medical Assistant Specialist - Allergy
Lakeland, FL
Mon-Fri Day shift

Summary/Objective
Medical Assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly. In addition to administrative duties, Medical Assistants perform clinical duties in accordance with state law and Clinic requirement.

Essential Functions
Summons and prepares patient for office visit.
Assists the physician with medical office procedures
Administers medication, including injections; documents medication given or prescribed by ordering physicians as required by specialty.
Adheres to nursing policies and procedures when documenting information in patient's medical record.
Maintains the integrity of the office
Assumes responsibility for maintaining current certification in CPR
Accepts responsibility for reading and referencing new policies and procedures and Nursing Update newsletters.
Is an active member of the care team and may include additional duties related to care coordination.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
Position requires a great deal of walking, standing, moving and manipulating equipment, as well as lifting and moving objects, equipment and supplies.
It is reasonable to anticipate lifting 20-25 pounds on a daily basis. Lifting up to 30 pounds will occasionally be required, depending on the specific style or type of care provided and must be able to push/pull a patient sitting in a wheelchair.

The person in this position needs to be able to move about the inside from the Care Team station to the exam rooms to interact with patients and stock supplies.
Constant operation of a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as nebulizer, fax machine, copier and computer printer is required. Must be able to administer intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections.
The person in this position frequently communicates with Clinic staff, such as providers, patients, call center representatives, receptionists, Patient Financial Services, Managed Care, specialty pharmacies, etc. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
May be exposed to live vaccines, blood-borne pathogens, and bio-hazardous materials.
Must be able to appropriately assist with procedures.

Travel
No travel is expected for this position other than occasional travel to corporate sites regarding employee relations issues.

Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or 1 year of Medical Assistant work experience within the last 2 years. Medical Assistant Certification required. Current BLS certification or to be completed within first 90 days of employment.
