Medical Director of Research- Infectious Disease

Henry Ford Health in Detroit, Michigan is seeking a Board Certified Infectious Diseases physician to serve as Medical Director of Infectious Disease Research, leading a nationally respected division with a long history of excellence in clinical care, education, and scientific innovation. This academic leadership role offers the opportunity to shape the division's research strategy, oversee clinical trials and translational studies, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, mentor faculty and trainees, and guide grant development across NIH, CDC, and industry funded portfolios. The position includes protected research time, access to a fully funded 3,400 sq. ft. laboratory, and integration with Henry Ford's extensive clinical and academic infrastructureincluding 13 hospitals, advanced ID fellowships, and more than 100 prior clinical trials. Candidates should have demonstrated academic productivity, experience with funded research, and eligibility for faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, along with a commitment to advancing programs in HIV, transplant ID, antimicrobial resistance, healthcare epidemiology, and global health.

The physician will provide outstanding clinical care, advance research within the Infectious Diseases Division, and actively contribute to teaching in our academic programs. The Director of Infectious Disease Research will set the strategic vision and provide leadership for all research activities within the division. This role includes overseeing ongoing studies, fostering innovative research initiatives, and supporting grant-funded projects across translational and clinical domains.

Key responsibilities include shaping and expanding the division's research strategy, directing and overseeing clinical trials and translational research, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across departments and external institutions to strengthen research partnerships, mentoring and developing faculty, fellows, and research staff, guiding grant development and stewardship, integrating research with clinical and educational missions, and contributing to clinical care within the Infectious Diseases Division.

Qualifications include board certification in infectious diseases, completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in infectious diseases, proven academic productivity, experience in leading or contributing to grant-funded research projects, demonstrated leadership skills within academic or research environments, and eligibility for faculty appointment at the assistant or associate professor level.
