Job Description

Medical Laboratory Technologist (Colorado West Healthcare System d/b/a Community Hospital) (Grand Junction, CO): Perform all designated procedures competently, including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Specimen Processing, Blood Bank, and Microbiology when designated. Set up and perform a variety of technical and complex tests following established procedures. Pulls various reports throughout the day to ensure complete, thorough and timely reporting of laboratory test results. Advises following shift about the status of any pending work; Interpret, correlate and report test results. Verify computer-generated reports. Investigate and address erroneous test values, irregularities, errors or instrument failures. Recognize and solve problems or determine alternative solutions for analysis if needed. Document all deviations from established procedures for review by Manager; Perform any QA and maintenance as required. Perform and document quality control. Document all quality control failures and corrective action taken. Maintain accurate logs, records, files and all other required documentation. Participate in updating and reviewing of procedures. Assist in the maintenance of CAP (College of American Pathologists) accreditation. Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration and make minor repairs to instrumentation. Notify Manager of any major instrument problems, efforts to correct and if any major repairs are needed; Maintains current clinical knowledge and skills through in-services, workshops and/or seminars; Meets competency requirements, works rotating weekends, holidays and rotating fill-in for all shifts that become available due to illness or PTO requests; Acts as technical lead in absence of Lab Manager or Supervisor. Provides courteous and professional direction and consultation to CLA on technical topics; and Participates in the orientation and training of new staff as requested. Completes training documentation as required. Must have experience with the following: Experience with ISO standards; Experience with laboratory testing, instrumentation, and quality control procedures; Experience in areas of laboratory testing; Experience with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and making minor repairs to instrumentation; and experience with laboratory workflows as they relate to orders, requisitions, instrumentation, quality control, and troubleshooting. Requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Medical Technology or a related field, 2 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or related occupation and certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (American Society of Clinical Pathologists [ASCP]) or equivalent.
