Eligible for provisional licensure or currently licensed in Texas as an Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) -Associate, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) -Intern, or equivalent. Experience working with young adults or college populations preferred. Interest in outreach, wellness programs, and mental health promotion on campus preferred. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.Mental Health Counselor IIMaster’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related mental health field. Current full independent licensure as an LPC or LCSW in good standing (supervision endorsement not required). Must be able to obtain a Texas License within 3 months of hire. Minimum of three years of post-graduate clinical experience. Experience providing counseling in a university or college counseling center or busy community counseling center preferred. Knowledge of developmental and systemic factors affecting student success and well-being, and experience in outreach or program development related to mental health promotion preferred. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.Mental Health Counselor IIIMaster’s degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related mental health field; or Doctorate in Counselor Education. Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisor (LCSW-S) in the State of Texas. Minimum of five years full-time equivalent post-licensure experience, including at least one year providing clinical supervision in a college, university, or relevant clinical setting. Experience in a university or college counseling setting is preferred. Expertise in one or more specialty areas such as trauma, eating concerns, substance use, or neurodiversity preferred. Experience designing and delivering outreach or wellness programs preferred. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.Mental Health Counselor IVMaster’s degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related mental health field. Doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related discipline preferred. Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisor (LCSW-S) in the State of Texas. Minimum of seven years full-time post-licensure clinical experience, including at least two years providing supervision to licensed professionals. Experience in a university or college counseling center preferred. Proven success in leading complex initiatives, staff development, or clinical program innovation preferred. History of professional advocacy or leadership within the mental health field preferred. Demonstrates advanced clinical competence, independence, and professional judgment while supporting outreach, prevention, and consultation efforts to promote a healthy campus environment.Mental Health Counselor IIIProvides advanced clinical mental health services, supervision, and leadership within the Sam Houston State University Counseling Center. Offers direct counseling and crisis intervention services to students, clinical supervision to counseling staff and trainees, and consultation to the campus community. Supports a culture of student well-being, professional excellence, and continuous improvement through evidence-based practice, outreach, and collaboration.Mental Health Counselor IVProvides senior-level clinical, supervisory, and administrative leadership within the Counseling Center. Delivers advanced mental health services to students, oversees complex clinical and operational initiatives, and contributes to the strategic direction and quality of counseling programs. This role combines high-level clinical practice with mentorship, program oversight, and professional leadership to advance the university’s mission of student well-being and academic success.Primary Responsibilities:Mental Health Counselor IProvides individual, couples, and group counseling for students experiencing developmental, emotional, or mental health concerns, under the supervision of a licensed clinician. Conducts intake assessments, develops treatment plans, and maintains timely, accurate documentation according to ethical and professional standards. Participates in crisis intervention and risk assessment under supervision. Collaborates with other counseling staff and campus partners to coordinate comprehensive care for students. Participates in regular clinical supervision with a licensed staff clinician. Seeks guidance and consultation for complex cases, demonstrating openness to feedback and professional growth. Engages in ongoing professional development to advance clinical skills and prepare for full licensure. Participates in team meetings, case conferences, and in-service training sessions. Assists with student workshops, mental health awareness campaigns, and prevention programs. Consults with faculty, staff, and student groups regarding mental health resources and appropriate interventions. Supports a positive and growth-oriented campus environment by contributing to outreach and wellness initiatives. Maintains compliance with state regulations, ethical standards, and university policies governing clinical practice. Documents all clinical services accurately and timely, adhering to supervisory and center guidelines. Contributes to data collection, reporting, and evaluation efforts as directed by supervising staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.Mental Health Counselor IIProvides individual, couples, and group counseling for students experiencing developmental, emotional, or mental health concerns. Conducts intake assessments, formulates evidence-based treatment plans, and maintains timely, accurate documentation consistent with professional and university standards. Develops and delivers outreach presentations, workshops, and prevention programs focused on student mental health and wellness. Offers consultation and training to faculty, staff, and student organizations regarding mental health issues and campus resources. Participates in departmental initiatives, assessment, data reporting, and program evaluation. Attends case conferences, team meetings, and in-service professional development sessions. Maintains professional licensure, engage in ongoing training, and contribute to clinical supervision and peer consultation as needed. Adheres to all applicable ethical standards, legal requirements, and university policies governing clinical practice. Performs other related duties as assigned.Mental Health Counselor IIIProvides individual, couples, and group counseling for students presenting with a wide range of developmental, emotional, and psychological concerns. Conducts comprehensive risk assessments and crisis interventions, coordinating safety planning, follow-up, and after-hours on-call support as needed. Develops and implements evidence-based treatment plans and maintain accurate, timely documentation consistent with legal, ethical, and university standards. Provides case consultation and serves as a clinical resource to colleagues managing complex cases. Delivers clinical supervision and mentorship to Level II counselors, trainees, and interns. Leads or co-facilitates case conferences, peer consultation groups, or in-service trainings to enhance clinical practice and promote staff development. Contributes to quality assurance, policy development, and program evaluation efforts within the Counseling Center. Assists with onboarding and training new staff members and serve as acting lead in the absence of the Director or Associate Director. Collaborates with faculty, staff, and departments to promote student mental health and campus-wide wellness initiatives. Develops and delivers prevention-based outreach programming, workshops, and presentations to the university community. Represents the Counseling Center on university committees, task forces, and professional collaborations. Maintains compliance with state laws, ethical standards, and institutional policies governing clinical practice and supervision. Represents Counseling Services in professional, university, and community settings, including committees, task forces, and conferences. Provides expert consultation to university leadership, faculty, and staff regarding student mental health, crisis response, and intervention strategies. Coordinates or oversees key functional areas such as training, outreach, clinical operations, or quality assurance. Participates in the development and execution of the Counseling Center’s strategic plan and assist in budget and resource planning. Mentors emerging leaders and fosters a culture of clinical excellence, collaboration, and inclusivity. Contributes to accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts. Provides consultation and case review for high-risk or complex situations, serving as a senior-level resource for the department. Engages in professional leadership activities beyond the university, including conference presentations, publications, and service in state or national professional organizations.
