These part-time, time-limited positions are funded through the State of Florida's Extension for Community Health Outcomes (ECHO) Diabetes initiative and are available in Alachua, Polk/Hardee, Hillsborough, and Miami-Dade counties. As a Diabetes Peer Coach, you will work directly with adults living with Type 1 (T1D) and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) in primary care and community settings. In this role, you will: Support patients in navigating their diabetes care. Connect patients with local diabetes-related resources, support groups, and outreach opportunities. Help link patients with peers in their community who are also living with T1D or T2D. Participate in weekly ECHO tele-education sessions, serving as a bridge between local clinics (“spokes") and UF (“hub”). Peer coaches will work collaboratively with clinical and academic faculty to advance the goals of the ECHO Diabetes program and will work under the supervision of the project's Principal Investigator, Dr. Ashby Walker. Multiple positions are available, and placement will be based on the needs in Alachua, Polk/Hardee, Hillsborough, and Miami-Dade counties.Expected Salary: $16-20 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.Required Qualifications: Associate's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Lives in or near program site locations (i.e., Alachua, Polk/Hardee, Hillsborough, and Miami-Dade counties). Strong working knowledge of Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes. Strong communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a team setting. Ability to work with people from varied backgrounds. Strong working experience in a clinical care setting. Experience in mentoring, teaching, and/or community health work. Fluent in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole.
