We break down barriers between traditional subjects and create opportunities for students to develop their understanding of the world and extend their perspective and thinking beyond our town Public Schools is seeking a paraprofessional to work collaboratively with classroom faculty to support students in middle school grades who have IEPs and are integrated within our general education classrooms. This position will begin on January 5 :High school diploma requiredAssociates degree or a Bachelors degree preferred Prior experience working with students with disabilities is preferred Training or coursework in special education is preferredSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Student Support Services may find appropriate and acceptableREPORTS TO: Director of Student Support ServicesJOB GOAL: To work closely with students with disabilities in an effort to provide them with instructional and/or social emotional support as needed for effective progress while assisting the special and general education staff in implementing IEP goals. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (Under the direction and supervision of licensed educators who design instruction.)Provide academic support and direct instruction to students to meet IEP goals/objectives. Assist teachers with the implementation of appropriate curriculum lessons alternate assessments accommodations and modifications for children with special supervision of the classrooms during times in which the special educator is required to be elsewhere in the positive behavior management techniques and/or individual behavior support plans during individual and small group instruction and/or within the general education planning meetings in-service workshops/trainings team meetings and parent-teacher conferences when requested by the Program with teachers special educators and therapists around designated students on a regular basis to discuss student progress and to support and carry over classroom and therapy goals and knowledge and understanding of current IEPs of assigned student/s and collect data as students with disabilities outside of regular class times including but not limited to the transition to and from transportation lunch recess field trips assemblies emergency drills and hallway students necessary support while fostering and facilitating independence and positive a high level of confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions and responsibilities as a member of the teaching other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support REQUIREMENTS:This position may require lifting positioning and transitioning students as needed according to caseload/classroom assignment.
