Job Description

Job Title: Pharmacy TechnicianReports to: Chief Pharmacist Staff PharmacistStatus: Non-ExemptRate: $15.50-19.00/hr SummaryThe Pharmacy Technician will act as a patient advocate by ensuring that patients follow their drug therapy plans as prescribed. This is done by assisting the Chief Pharmacist/Pharmacist in duties of preparing and distributing prescription medications that are within the scope of Lewis Drug policy and state and national regulations. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide prompt friendly customer service to all patients in the pharmacy and customers throughout the store Learn Lewis Drug policies and procedures and perform them dailyEstablish and maintain good relationships with physicians and other healthcare providersAnswer patient questions and troubleshoot and/or resolve them promptlyAnswer phone calls promptly and in a polite mannerAssist in all customer service situations and finish customer transactions using the registerObtain and maintain pertinent information from patients so as to fill prescriptions accurately and efficientlyMaintain the confidentiality of patients private medical information according to the HIPAA ActProcess new and refill prescriptions within scope of practicePrepare paperwork and compile medications for delivery and mail out orders when neededManage and serve drive-thru patients in an efficient manner (if applicable) Report any medication error to proper personnelAbility to log into a variety of software systems to perform daily technician functionsPerform daily maintenance of automated devices within the pharmacy Stock supplies clean work area clean patient area and prepare pharmacy for next days operationsPromote Lewis initiatives and represent Lewis in a positive manner to our patients and communitiesPerform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Pharmacist/PharmacistAdditional RequirementsAbility to learn basic drug terminologyAbility to learn differences between brand and generic drugsPerform basic pharmaceutical calculations (addition subtraction multiplication division some algebra)Ability to multi-task and pay attention to detailWork effectively as part of a team to support the entire pharmacy as well as individuallyPossess good organizational and time-management skillsAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writingLearn new software systems and type (data entry) accurately and efficientlyDependable in attendance and job performancePossess the initiative to plan for and complete daily activities in coordination with other pharmacy team membersEducation Experience and LicensureState of Iowa RequirementsRegister with the state Board of Pharmacy (BOP)Must be at least 16 years oldMust be registered prior to the first day workedBecome a nationally certified pharmacy technician within 1 year of BOP registrationPharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification is recommendedState of Minnesota RequirementsRegister with the state Board of Pharmacy (BOP)Must be 18 and have a high school diploma or GEDMust be registered prior to the first day workedMust complete BOP approved Lewis training within 1 year of BOP registrationState of South Dakota RequirementsRegister with the state Board of PharmacyMust be at least 16 years oldMust be registered within 30 days of employmentAdditional considerations that apply to all states:Successful completion of an approved/accredited pharmacy technician program to become certified is desired but not requiredComplete yearly CE requirements to maintain active license or as required per stateAdditional pharmacy technician credentials/endorsements encouraged but not requiredPhysical RequirementsMust be able to stand for long periods of time and move quickly from one workstation to anotherWork with full range of hands wrists and arms (i.e. Ability to pick up and pinch small items with fingers and seize hold grasp or turn objects with hands)Constantly positions self or moves about the pharmacy to access product and supplies from varying height levelsAbility to lift/move items up to 50 lbs occasionally up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 10 lbs constantlyVisual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction Must have depth perception color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors) and field of visionMust have ability to communicate verbally with staff and patientsMust be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced setting (filling scripts answering phones waiting on patients etc.)Benefits (Full-time employees)Medical dental and vision insuranceHSA FSA LPFSA optionsVoluntary options: life long-term disability life/long-term care hybrid cancer critical illness accident identity theft protectionEmployee discountRetirement savings (401k)Paid Time Off (PTO)Paid volunteer timeCompany paid short term disabilityCompany paid life insuranceDiscounted logowearEmployee Assistance ProgramBenefits (Part-time employees)Employee discountRetirement savings (401k)Paid Time Off (PTO)Discounted logowearEmployee Assistance ProgramRequired Experience:IC Key Skills Load & Unload,LTC Pharmacy,Typing,Inventory Control,Customer Service,Hospital Experience,Pharmacy Software,Communication skills,Math,Pharmacy Technician Experience,Order Entry,Compounding Medications Employment Type : Hourly Experience: years Vacancy: 1 Monthly Salary Salary: 15 - 19
