Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJOB SUMMARYCanal Pointe, a Family Focused Recovery program, is Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana’s (VOASELA) evidence-based opioid and substance use disorder treatment and recovery model for pregnant and parenting women and their children. VOASELA’s trauma-informed services keep families together in residential treatment and partner with women in the community on their recovery journey. VOASELA’s holistic and culturally responsive program treats women’s chemical dependency, breaks the cycle of addiction, reunites families, and promotes the birth of healthy, drug-free babies.Canal Pointe is seeking an Mobile Unit Peer Recovery Coach for our Mobile Harm Reduction Unit partnership work with Crescent Care to work a flexible full-time schedule, including evening work. The Mobile Unit Peer Recovery Coach, under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Integrated & Behavioral Health, is responsible for providing community-based outreach and harm reduction services in collaboration with Crescent Care and additional partners as part of the Mobile Harm Reduction Unit. This individual will act as the primary point of contact with partner agencies, and ensure all contractual obligations are met including reaching outcomes expectations and submission of reporting by established deadlines. This individual will work in the community providing outreach, peer support, and referral coordination to substance users in New Orleans. This individual will coordinate assigned staff, Crescent Care and additional partners to complete outreach events as part of the City's Mobile Harm Reduction Unit. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Act as lead for Mobile Harm Reduction Unit activities by ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations, including meeting or exceeding outcome expectations.Actively engage with residents, community leaders, and organizations to raise awareness of VOASELA programs and build relationships. Coordinate with assigned staff, Crescent Care and additional partners to complete outreach events as part of the Mobile Harm Reduction Unit, including late-night events. Conduct outreach activities, such as distributing information and attending community events.Provide education on and distribution of Harm Reduction Supplies to community members.Provide informal peer support to community members who use substances. Provide information and referrals to community members who use substances. Accurately record receipt and distribution of Louisiana Department of Health Harm Reduction Site supplies. Coordinate ordering of harm reduction supplies with the Assistant Vice President of Integrated & Behavioral Health. Utilize concurrent documentation and record accurate information in the EHR of each person served within 1 business day.Responsible for ensuring that all policies, procedures and practices of VOASELA and all governmental regulatory agencies are met.Perform additional duties as assigned. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Non-essential)Adhere to the designated dress code as stipulated for the specific role.VOASELA maintains an alcohol and drug-free workplace, with a workforce free of substance use. SUPERVISORY DUTIES:NoneKEY CONTACTSMaintains critical relationships with the following:Louisiana Department of Health Harm Reduction Hub. Crescent Care Mobile Harm Reduction Unit.Other Mobile Harm Reduction Unit partners.12 step and other community-based support groups. Community-based referral options for persons served. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:This position requires knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:High school diploma or equivalent. Lived experience with a substance use disorder diagnosis with at least 12 months (24-36 months or more preferred) of continuous demonstrated recovery. Registered Peer Support Specialist credential required (can be obtained after hire).Experience working with substance users.Comfortability working with community members who are actively using drugs and alcohol. Familiarity with harm reduction interventions, along with trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Advanced computer skills.Advanced skills within Electronic Health Systems.Ability to interact with staff at all levels in a respectful manner, remaining flexible, proactive, and task oriented. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, accuracy, flexibility, reliability, and prioritizing skills.Must be able to maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.Must be able to pass a criminal history investigation (not all convictions will exclude candidates from being hired).Must pass drug screening tests as required by agency’s policies and procedures.Must complete tuberculosis (TB) screening prior to employment and be free from Tuberculosis (TB) in a communicable state via skin testing (or chest exam if recommended by physician).Must be able to maintain First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and seizure assessment training.This position provides services in the community.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:The Mobile Unit Peer Recovery Coach schedule is variable based on the schedule of outreach events including afternoon, occasional evening and rare weekend Mobile Harm Reduction Unit events. This position may require the incumbent to engage in rare local travel in and around the community appropriate to the performance of duties and responsibilities. As such, incumbent must have: Current driver’s license issued by state of residenceCurrent Vehicle Inspection decalCurrent vehicle insuranceCurrent vehicle registration in state of residenceSatisfactory Motor Vehicle ReportWORKING CONDITIONSWork is primarily performed in the community, outdoors, where weather may vary. Dexterity is used while performing work with personal computer keyboard, calculator and other office equipment. Driving to local (frequently) and some state-wide (rarely) functions.
