Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob Summary:A Multiple Disabilities Paraprofessional provides direct support to students with multiple disabilities in an educational setting. This role involves assisting students with academic, behavioral, social, and physical needs to promote independence and participation in the classroom and school community. The paraprofessional collaborates with special education teachers, therapists, and other staff to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and ensure a supportive learning environment.Essential Functions:Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students with multiple disabilities.Assist in implementing IEP goals and accommodations as directed by the special education teacher.Support students in developing academic skills by adapting lessons and materials to meet individual needs.Use visual supports, adaptive tools, and assistive technology to enhance student learning.Help students transition between activities and environments, ensuring safety and structureImplement behavior management strategies as outlined in a student’s Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).Use positive reinforcement and redirection techniques to support student engagement and self-regulation.Assist students in developing social and communication skills, including peer interactions.Monitor and document behavioral progress, reporting concerns to the teacher or special education team.Provide support for mobility needs, including pushing wheelchairs, assisting with walkers, and transferring students as needed.Assist students with personal care tasks, such as feeding, toileting, dressing, and hygiene, while maintaining dignity and privacy.Ensure the use of adaptive equipment (e.g., standing frames, orthotics, communication devices) as needed.Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment, ensuring that all health and safety protocols are followed.Work closely with teachers, therapists (occupational, speech, physical), and nurses to provide coordinated support.Communicate effectively with teachers about student progress, needs, and any concerns.Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal guidelines related to student records and disabilities.Participate in IEP meetings and training sessions to stay informed on student needs and best practices.Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent (required).Prior experience working with students with multiple disabilities is highly desirable.Skills & Knowledge:Understanding of special education principles and best practices for supporting students with disabilities.Ability to implement academic, behavioral, and life skills strategies under teacher supervision.Knowledge of assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and communication tools (e.g., AAC devices, visual schedules).Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills to collaborate with staff and support students effectively.Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to fostering student independence.Evaluation & Professional Growth:Regular performance evaluations conducted by the supervising teacher and/or administrator.Required participation in professional development related to special education, behavior management, and assistive technology.Opportunities for certification programs, workshops, and training in specialized interventions and strategies.
