Job DescriptionJob DescriptionRye Country Day School is seeking Lower School Associate Teachers beginning in August, 2026. The Associate Teacher program is designed to give beginning teachers an apprenticeship opportunity for two years in a classroom with a Lead Teacher while concurrently earning a Masters degree. In addition to a teaching salary and full benefits, Rye Country Day School will pay the full tuition cost of graduate school for Associate Teachers while they are employed at the school, for two years. Associate Teachers are expected to maintain appropriate grades and to complete their degree within two years. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, PreK-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. We expect and promote moral responsibility and strive to develop strength of character within a respectful school community.Specific responsibilities of the position include:Commit to the RCDS Associate Teaching Program, a two year program intended for graduate students pursuing a Masters Degree in Elementary Education at an accredited program of their choiceCollaborate with Head Teacher in concert and in the best interests of studentsAssume responsibility for instructional planning, implementation, and assessment under the direction of the Lead Teacher; assist the Lead Teacher with planning for different class activitiesWork with small groups in activities under the Lead Teacher’s supervisionHelp children on an individual basis with academic, social, and emotional support and with following directionsPlan and conduct class meetings under the direction of the Lead Teacher Provide support to the Lead Teacher and give clerical assistance in reviewing student work and in copying and laminating materials for the classroom; with the Lead Teacher, assemble instructional materials and prepare display and bulletin board spacesHelp to prepare the classroom prior to the opening of school in the fall, and attend the parent orientation evening and “Back to School Night” Assist the Lead Teacher in preparing written reports and conducting parent conferences Maintain positive relationships with colleagues and parents; contribute in a supportive manner to the life of the community; treat information related to students as strictly confidential Attend all meetings called by the Head of School as well as all division and grade level meetings Utilize release time and financial support to attend workshops, conferences, and other professional growth opportunities as approved by the Lower School Principal and the Head of School Share responsibilities for the Primary Bus Duty, Afternoon Waiting Rooms, Morning Greeters; help with dismissal at the end of the dayDesired Qualifications: A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusionExperience working with children in some capacity such as teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counselorComfort with technology, including a 1:1 laptop program and online course management systemMust be enrolled in an accredited Early Childhood or Elementary Education Masters Degree Program by August, 2025RCDS seeks employees who support our mission to foster a lifelong passion for learning, understanding, and service in an ever-changing world, and who share our commitment to creating and sustaining a vibrant, thriving, and inclusive multicultural learning community.
