Network Engineer at Agile Global Solutions, Inc.

Position: Network Engineer Location: Chesapeake, VA (Onsite) Duration: 6 months Contract to Hire Note: Standard background check and drug test. Must also clear the CJIS check and finger printing done by the City. Job Description: We are looking for senior-level candidates who have designed and operated provider-grade networks, not just enterprise environments. This candidate will be responsible for finalizing the design and implementation of a BGP network that will serve as the backbone of our ISP. Requirements BGP Expertise: Ability to design, configure, and maintain BGP routing across multiple peers, including route reflection, policy controls, and failover scenarios. Advanced knowledge on design and configuration of the routing protocol BGP is not negotiable Network Architecture: Design scalable, redundant ISP-grade networks across core, distribution, and edge layers. Security: Knowledge of securing BGP sessions (MD5 authentication, prefix filtering, RPKI), firewall integration, and DDoS mitigation. Protocols & ISP Operations: OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPNs, QoS, IPv4/IPv6 management, peering agreements, DNS/DHCP/IPAM. Additional Attributes Hands-On Implementation: Configure routers/switches, troubleshoot, and operationalize the design. Vendor Experience: Cisco IOS-XR, Palo Alto NGFW, Infoblox, Nutanix, or comparable platforms. Monitoring & Documentation: NOC dashboards, SNMP/NetFlow, detailed runbooks, and network diagrams. Collaboration: Work effectively across city departments (Public Safety, Public Works, Schools, Libraries) and external providers. Soft Skills Strong communication skills to explain complex designs to varied stakeholders. Problem-solving mindset for escalations and critical incidents. Background in municipal broadband or public sector networks is a plus.
