Network EngineerSalaried PositionTo Start As Soon As PossibleUSD 497DetailsFTE:1.0HOURS/DAY:8.0DAYS PER YEAR:261Purpose StatementThe job of Network Engineer is done for the purpose/s of supervisingsupporting and monitoring the districts network infrastructure to ensure asecure stable and high-availability environment that meets bothinstructional and operational needs. The position is accountable for day-to-day network operations analyzes and resolves complex technical issues andapplies operational measures to optimize system performance. The NetworkEngineer provides technical leadership in areas such as network securitydisaster recovery and cloud integration while collaborating withadministration and technology staff on infrastructure planning. The role alsoensures timely communication of network events and facilitates technologyinfrastructure training to support the safe and efficient operation of networksystems across all school sites.Essential FunctionsApplies and utilizes various operational measurements and analytics forthe purpose of maintaining a robust network to meet operationalneeds.Assists in the development of eligible projects (e.g. plan and coordinatetechnology needs with E-rate funding opportunities gatheringsupporting documentation etc.) for the purpose of securing federalfunding and supporting the districts long-term infrastructure goals.Automates recurring IT tasks with scripting (i.e. Bash PowerShell) (e.g.system inventory data uploads/downloads user management andbackups etc.) for the purpose of enhancing efficiency and reducingmanual intervention.Communicates events activities upgrades and information to relevantstakeholders (e.g. infrastructure events maintenance activities etc.) forthe purpose of ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of updatesthrough appropriate communication channels keeping all district staffand school sites informed and ensuring safety while minimizingdisruption.Creates and maintains templates and documentation of networkchanges (e.g. migration to new systems; scheduling installationsproduct research etc.) for the purpose of delivering services incompliance with established guidelines and/or objectives.Develops and maintains disaster recovery and business continuityplans including regular testing and backup verification for the purposeof minimizing downtime and ensuring the continuity of instructionaland operational services in the event of disruption.Establishes structured management practices for networkinfrastructure updates upgrades and maintenance for the purpose ofminimizing service disruptions and maintaining operational stability.Facilitates training and technical guidance for technology staff onnetwork-related systems best practices and procedures for thepurpose of promoting proper usage enhancing digital safety andensuring efficient use of network resources.Manages and integrates cloud-based infrastructure and services (e.g.Google Workspace Microsoft 365 Azure etc.) for the purpose ofensuring secure scalable and reliable access to digital resources andcollaboration tools.Monitors network performance using diagnostic tools and analyticalreporting for the purpose of proactively identifying issues optimizingnetwork resources and informing leadership decisions.Plans organizes and manages the Network Infrastructure Team staffand activities for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use new and/orexisting operating systems and application software.Prepares written materials (e.g. detailed network infrastructurediagram and documentation etc.) for the purpose of documentingactivities providing written reference and/or conveying information.Recommends equipment supplies and materials for the purpose ofacquiring required items and completing jobs efficiently.Researches plans and recommends technology improvements andupgrades to administration for the purpose of recommendingprocedures and/or purchases.Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. staffadministrators school site personnel service providers etc.) for thepurpose of providing technical assistance and support.Supervisors supports and monitors systems and servers related todistrict LAN and WAN for the purpose of ensuring availability of servicesto authorized users.Supports the Network Analyst Team in the maintenance of the district-wide information infrastructure by providing technical expertise (e.g.core network operations data backups and storage data center(power cooling security space) email firewall and remove accessnetwork security services management voice over IP (Cisco UC)wireless networks (Cisco Meraki) etc.) for the purpose of ensuringefficient operations.Troubleshoots and provides expert support for malfunctions of networkhardware and/or software applications within the districts local andwide area networks telephones and security systems (e.g. servers hubsrouters network protocols etc.) for the purpose of resolving operationalissues and restoring services.Other FunctionsPerforms other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuringthe efficient and effective functioning of the department.Job Requirements: Minimum QualificationsKnowledge Skills and AbilitiesKNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; review and interprethighly technical information write technical materials and/or speakpersuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to defineissues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competenciesrequired to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: currentlegacy and emerging operating systems; environments and networkprotocols; router configurations; Inter/Intranet applications; data securityproject management processes and methodology.SKILLS are required to perform multiple highly complex technical tasks witha need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform thefunctions of the job include: utilizing pertinent network applicationoperating system monitoring and troubleshooting software; adhering tosafety practices; planning and managing projects; and preparing andmaintaining accurate records.ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities meetingsand/or events; routinely gather collate and/or classify data; and consider awide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required toindependently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyzedata utilizing a variety of complex processes; and utilize equipment under avariety of conditions for multiple purposes. Utilization of significantresources from other work units is routinely required to perform the jobsfunctions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact theorganizations services.Work EnvironmentThe usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions requirethe following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing and/orpulling some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significantfine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 15% sitting 15% walking 70%standing.
