As a Network Ops Engineer, you'll be an integral part of a team that is responsible for supporting and maintaining Iridium Gateway telecom architecture and service sub-systems. This position provides last tier support to Iridium's ground systems operations teams, including Gateway Technical Ops, Tier 2 Customer Support, and Service Delivery. Working in this role, you'll gain valuable experience in satellite telecom gateway subsystems, both on premise and cloud systems, while making a meaningful impact on Iridium service availability and new service launches. You'll be successful in this role if you are an eager learner, known problem-solver, and can draw on your previous technical experience to assist with triaging, diagnosing, and finding solutions on a wide range of technical challenges.What You'll Do:Work collaboratively with vendors, subcontractors, and consultants to resolve outstanding issuesAssist in maintaining Iridium Gateway subsystems and services, both on premise and cloud basedParticipate in the administration and maintenance of the remote monitoring and management system: update agent scripts, respond to alerts, monitor dashboards, and perform periodic system reviewsIdentify, investigate and resolve operations issues and work closely with the Operations team to improve maintenance procedures and achieve successful troubleshootingWork with team members to ensure high quality products are ready to deploy into production according to assigned scheduleInvestigate and resolve system issues escalated from other internal support teamsContribute to maintenance and deployment documents for all Gateway network element systems and network infrastructureProvide technical support to external and internal groupsWhat You'll Need to Succeed:Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or related field OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree2+ years of relevant technical experience, preferably in telecommunications or similar industryWorking knowledge, from install to maintenance, of Linux operating system (Redhat/CentOS), IP network infrastructure, VMware, ATCA platforms, and Database systems and tools (Oracle, MySQL, MSSQLWorking knowledge of maintaining containers/networking on AWS ECS and EKSStrong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present information and ideas to othersHave confidence and be able to easily build meaningful relationships with your manager and members of your teamMust be able to prioritize your tasks, be self-aware enough to identify and correct mistakes, and not be afraid to ask for help when neededBe active in seeking out ways to improve yourself and gain new knowledge, and be enthusiastic in sharing knowledge with othersThings That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:Any AWS certification (i.e., AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, AWS Certified Advanced Networking, AWS Certified AI Practitioner, etc.)Knowledge of any of the following is a plus:Communications systems architecture developmentCircuit and packet switched voice and data communications TCP/IP communicationsVoIP (including network management)Experience with any of the following is plus: IPv4 networksGSMTelecomRealtime systemsDirect experience with systems software life cyclePrevious experience in software development (i.e., C, C++, Python) preferred, but not required Experience in IP network engineering, development, integration, and testing is strongly desiredWe'll also need you to:NOTE: This is a hybrid position requiring in-office attendance 3 days a weekBe on call to support major network issuesBe able to travel up to 10%This position directly performs under, supports, or is exposed to a U.S. government contract. To comply with the requirements of that U.S. government contract, applicants for this position must be U.S. citizenWork Environment:This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
