Job DescriptionJoin UChicago Medicine as a Nursing Support Assistant to serve on our 4C Cardiology Observation Unit.With the leadership of the Manager and the Clinical Supervisor the Nursing Support Assistant(CNA) performs assigned supportive work in connection with the delivery of patient care including functional tasks and skills.The University of Chicago Medicine is designated as a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center meaning the hospital is prepared to handle the most seriously injured trauma patients 24 hours a day seven days a week. This unit is a high acuity fast-paced hematology oncology unit which is looking for a NSA with attention to detail effective communication and ability to multi-task. Prefers 6 months of nursing assistant experience but willing to hire new graduates from an accredited NSA program. Unit offers self-scheduling opportunities to work with multi-disciplinary teams and a friendly culture.Job SummaryPerforms activities which support the daily functions and operations of a patient care unit and the healthcare team. Provides constant observation and documentation of activity of assigned patient. Works under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the assigned area.Essential Job FunctionsProvides basic patient care activities including vital signs enemas and basic tests such as glucoscan hemacult and multistixAssists patients with activities of daily living as appropriate/assigned using proper aseptic isolation and infection control techniques in performance of dutiesAssists patients with personal hygiene ambulation and nourishment/fluidsCompletes procedures as assigned such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients.Assists with discharge and transfer preparation of patientsAssists in the maintenance of the patient environment: makes patient beds tidies patient room and prepares patient room for admission and transferAssists with the maintenance of supplies/equipment and the environment.Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logsInitiates CPR and calls a Dr. CartPerforms receptionist duties for assigned area as requestedRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDMust be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR.CPR/BLS CertificationAbility to read and write perform simple mathematical calculations follow oral and written instructions perform variety of tasks without direct supervision and perform duties requiring continuous physical effortAbility to effectively communicate verbally and/or in written formAbility to work in partnership with management and staffOccasional lifting may be heavy and awkward over 50 lbs.Moderate to extreme physical effort such as walking standing performing CPR and lifting materials equipment objects and/or patients may be requiredVision hearing and sense of touch must be adequate to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print defining details sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communicationFrequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual auditory and sensory inputsPosition DetailsJob Type/FTE:Full- Time (.90 FTE)Shift: Nights 7PM-7AM every other weekend requiredUnit/Department: 4C CardiologyCBA Code: 743 UnionWhy Join UsWeve been at the forefront of medicine since 1899. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations such as internal equity.
