Department:SOM Wichita Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN)-----OB-GYNPosition Title:OBGYN Clerkship and 4th Year Course DirectorJob Family Group: AcademicJob Description Summary:This is a part-time 0.5 FTE and benefits eligible position that oversees the Obstetrics and Gynecology Predoctoral Education for the department of OBGYN including the 3rd year clerkship 4th year rotations electives and other Obstetrics and Gynecology medical student activities and serves as the point of contact for the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita.Job Description:Job Duties:Direct Obstetrics and Gynecology Predoctoral Education/Curriculum (50%)Oversee the Obstetrics and Gynecology Predoctoral Education for the department of OBGYN including the 3rd year clerkship 4th year rotations electives enrichment opportunities during foundational sciences blocks and other Obstetrics and Gynecology medical student activities.Communicate with and be responsible to the medical student curriculum committee and to the Assistant and Associate Deans for Medical Education for the implementation and quality of the medical student educational program and for coordination of institutional policies and educational programs with those of the University affiliated clinical sites accrediting bodies such as the LCME and national specialty and educational groups.Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Medical Education: Clinical Sciences regarding appropriateness of assessment methods as they relate to learning objectives and competencies and facilitate collection review and completion of student and faculty evaluations at the conclusion of each clinical sciences block.Work with the regional educational leaders on all campuses to ensure student educational experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology curriculum are consistent among sites while taking advantages of site-specific resources and opportunities (in accordance with the LCME accreditation standard ED- 8).Serve on committees (e.g. Curriculum Committee special committees and task forces) as the OBGYN Clerkship Director to ensure that students are appropriate prepared for the clinical sciences block and provided adequate resources and the block is mapped to the graduation competencies.Direct program administrative staff to ensure optimal curriculum delivery methods and effective efficient learner-centered administration of block.Review curricular innovations and requirements (AAMC NBME LCME ACGME etc.) germane to discipline and develop recommendations for adoption and implementation and participate in relevant educational organizations germane to discipline (e.g. APGO).Teaching (40%)Provide regular attendance and presentations at student and resident teaching conferences.Provide faculty development during teaching conferences and/or faculty meetings as it pertains to undergraduate medical education assessment and evaluation.Complete evaluations of residents and medical students.Serve on academic department and hospital committees as requested by the Department Chair and Division Directors.Research (7%)Design write implement oversee and present and/or publish innovations in medical education developed at KUSM for local national and international audiences.Support/conduct clinical research in the department.Participate in scholarly activity through the school and other outlets.Other duties (3%)Guide and assist the faculty residents and students in preparing talks for meetings in writing publications and conducting and presenting the results from research projects.Provide academic and career advising to medical students regarding rotation planning elective opportunities and visiting rotations.Serve as a resource to medical students entering OBGYN regarding residency application planning signaling and interviews.Complete SLOE forms for medical students pursuing OBGYN within the department.Provide mentorship to medical students and residents physicians as requested.This position description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
