On-Site Peer Tutor (MATH 105)Student Support Engagement & BelongingStudent AffairsNon-Exempt Contingent 1 Part-Time Pay Grade Stateside Contingent 1Hourly Pay Rate: $16.00 (undergraduate) / $19 (graduate)Location: On site: San Antonio TXUniversity of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks accomplished UMGC students and alumni to work on-site as part-time peer tutors for UMGC undergraduate students. Tutoring will be offered on-site at add location via scheduled appointment and drop-in availability. Ideal candidates will demonstrate knowledge in math skills related to the course MATH 105: Topics for Mathematical Literacy and be prepared to support undergraduate students who are taking the course.COURSE TO BE SUPPORTED UNDER THIS POSITION:MATH 105SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE UMGC PEER TUTOR INCLUDE:Provide support as a UMGC student or alumni peer tutor to other undergraduate students enrolled in UMGCs MATH 105Respond to undergraduate students questions and concerns related to the courseRespond to questions about course concepts related to assigned readings projects or homework assignmentsProvide clarifications examples and tutorials that support the student in developing a problem-solving strategy and authentic learningPromote a professional respectful and safe online learning environmentWork more closely with English language learnersREQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:In-depth knowledge in the undergraduate level course to be supported under this position(MATH 105). This includes knowledge in:How to apply mathematical processes to solve problems involving exponential and logarithmic modeling personal finance probability basic logical thinking and statistical reasoningCollege algebraFamiliarity with ALEKS (for MATH 105)Be an active student at UMGC at the undergraduate or graduate levelGood organizational interpersonal verbal and written communication skills in EnglishAbility to work closely with students to ensure student successPREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:For MATH 105: Agrade of A in the course is preferred but a B will be acceptable; have taken the course a year ago or less than a year agoLetter of recommendation or referral from a UMGC faculty member who teaches MATH 105Background in teaching tutoring and/or other type of learning support experience initiatives is highly considered but not requiredWHO WE ARE AND WHO WE SERVEUMGCone of 11 degree-granting institutions in the University System of Maryland (USM)is a mission-driven institution with seven core values that guide us in all we do.
