This job is responsible for working in a collaborative manner with multi-disciplinary medical center in the continuum of care of these patients, their caregivers and/or families to achieve desired goals. This job supports patients, families, and caregivers who are seeking, considering, or participating in clinical trials at the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. This role helps reduce barriers to clinical trial participation through patient education, coordination, culturally and linguistically appropriate communication, and collaboration with clinical and research teams.

Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Experience: 5 years of working experience in health care environment.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in healthcare, public health, social sciences, biological sciences, nursing, health administration, or related field. Experience: Experience in oncology, clinical research, navigation, or patient-facing support role. Experience utilizing electronic medical records and tracking systems. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Acts as a liaison between the patient, their family and the research study. Implements an individualized patient navigation plan for patients seeking treatment by facilitation of appointment scheduling, assisting with referral processes, providing client education and linking clients with appropriate support services. Identifies patient's understanding of medical care/outcomes and provides appropriate education and resources to address needs. Empowers patients to self-navigate the healthcare system. Promotes teamwork and multidisciplinary care concepts to patients, staff and faculty regarding the research project. Assists people to create their own/unique solutions by acting as a resource for the research project, and navigating a large multi-disciplinary medical system; connects patient with community resources when appropriate. Promotes the navigation program to the UT Southwestern community. Identifies and maintains a database of outcomes.
