For more information visit.Job Title:Ophthalmic TechnicianCompany: Monmouth Retina ConsultantsLocation: Little Silver NJTravel: Travel to our other offices in Manalapan and Toms River NJ is required as needed.***This is a contract position which will end 04/02/2026; however there is potential to get hired on as a permanent employee of Monmouth Retina.***Hours:Full time hours - you will work about 40 hours/weekOur offices are open Monday-Friday 7:15am-5:30pmYou shifts will fall within these hoursYou may need to work a little earlier/later as neededSUMMARYAn Ophthalmic Technicianis a valuable asset to an Ophthalmologist as they assist in providing excellent patient care to the patients during their visit. This employee will use ophthalmic techniques to perform preliminary work-up of patients in a clinic setting scribe for Physicians and may also directly assist Physician(s) with examinations and treatment of patients. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone).Display a professional attitude greet patients promptly with a smile and thank them when they leaveAnticipate Physician needs to facilitate the flow of the clinicPractice urgency at all times with patients time as well as doctors time and scheduleComply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAAVerify patients information by interviewing patient. Record patients medical history and current medications and confirm purpose of visit.Record all data in the patients Electronic Medical Record (EMR)Check condition of patients eyes by observing pupils muscles visual acuity and extraocular movementsRequired skills include: dilation refraction pressures and performing a variety of diagnostic tests including visual fields OCT GDX IOL master auto refractor and topographyDemonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy diseases symptoms and ocular medicationsAccurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the PhysicianDemonstrates basic understanding of examination and procedure codes (ICD-9 codes) when inputting into the EMR systemEnsure that accurate procedure coding/charges for all procedures/drugs for all patients and correct diagnosis codes are usedPrepare patients for treatments and minor procedures; measure and record vital signs (blood pressure pulse and respiration rate) as requiredOpen and close exam rooms as neededKeep examination treatment laser and any other assigned rooms cleaned and stocked with supplies and keep drug count up to date.General office duties and cleaning to be assigned by managerQUALIFICATIONSDesire to gain industry knowledge and trainingDemonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goalsAbility to grow adapt and accept changeConsistently creates a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focusedAbility to interact with all levels of employees in a courteous professional manner at all timesCommitment to work over 40 hours to meet the needs of the businessAbility to work weekends when applicableReliable transportation that would allow employee to go to multiple work locations with minimal noticeEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) requiredOne year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceLICENSES AND CREDENTIALSCurrent Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is preferred but not requiredOphthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) certification is preferred but not requiredSYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGYRequires proficient keyboarding skills use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and image management system.Proficient in Microsoft Excel Word PowerPoint OutlookComputer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis role requires a variety ofphysicalactivities to effectively perform essential job functions. The position involves frequent walking (75%) sitting (50%) and standing (50%) with regular bending stooping and reaching (2550%). Employees must be able to lift carry push and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential as the role demands constant grasping writing/typing and use of technology. Visual and auditory acuityincluding color depth peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focusis required100% of the time.
