Athletic Trainer/Orthotic Fitter Ortho-Orthotics & Prosthetic Full Time 86688BR Job Summary Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced athletic training professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.The athletic trainer will work primary on the Parnassus Avenue campus of UCSF. The position entails a clinicalcomponent of patient care (90%) and an administrative component brace inventory and assisting with projects andevents (10%).Clinically, the employee will work in the Orthotic and Prosthetic Center as a Certified Fitter of off-the-shelf orthoticdevices. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing orthotic patient care primarily for adult hospitalpatients for treatment of a broad range of medical diagnoses. To a lesser degree, the successful candidate willprovide outpatient care within the Parnassus Avenue clinic. The Athletic Trainer/Orthotic Fitter reports directly to thelead ATC / Orthotic Fitter for guidance and clinical support.Administratively, the athletic trainer will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining inventory levels, opening andlogging brace shipments, and assisting in program and department projects and events. Athletic trainers alsoprovide administrative, planning, and staffing support for various educational conferences and community events. The department has over 250 academic and staff personnel at multiple sites (UC, Mt. Zion, MB, SFGH, and VAMC). The Orthotic and Prosthetic Department provides joint patents care with numerous services across the UCSF health care system. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in the related field and 3-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent experience and trainingTwo years' experience working as a Certified Athletic Trainer in a competitive environment (graduate assistant years applicable)Post-employment completion of ABC Certified Fitter course, residency, and CertificationCurrent Athletic Trainer certification and in good standing with the BOCBLS / CPR CertificationComputer skills in programs relevant to job duties Demonstrates skills associated with athletic injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques, as well as of first-aid, athletic equipment, and injury assessment and treatmentFor positions associated with Sports Medicine, must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times, avoid any and all violations of these rules and standardsDemonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work assignments and complete assignments within required timelinesOrganizational and interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group.Intermediate manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicineAbility to maintain discretion and confidentiality involving athletic injuries and treatmentsStrong written and oral communication skillsExcellent time management and organizational skills Preferred Qualifications Master's degree or equivalentExperience with off-shelf bracing and durable medical equipmentDemonstrated knowledge of electronic medical records systemsPrevious experience working in a clinical setting with physicians and office assistantsExercise Physiology, research, and performance testing skills and interestsStrong familiarity of all Microsoft Office programs License/Certification Post-employment completion of ABC Certified Fitter course, residency, and CertificationCurrent Athletic Trainer certification and in good standing with the BOCBLS / CPR Certification About UCSF The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
