The programs goal is to educate refugees and newcomers on traffic safety to improve safety among some of the most impacted communities in Oregon. The program will increase knowledge of the Vision Zero initiative as well as connect the community to PBOT and PPB.Position SummaryThe Community Outreach Specialist conducts outreach among the Slavic and Eastern European Communities organize and facilitate educational Traffic Safety workshops work closely with PBOT PPB and other partner organizations collect data and feedback from participants generate reports for programs ongoing progress and share successes and challenges with the funder. The Community Outreach Specialist supports program development educational curriculum outlining and civic engagement.Essential FunctionsProvide outreach to the Slavic and Eastern European CommunitiesOrganize and facilitate educational workshopsCollaborate with PBOT PPB and other partner organizations on providing educational materials and speakers for workshopsCollect demographic data and feedback from participantsGenerate reports regarding ongoing progress successes and challengesSecondary FunctionsAbility to use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilitiesAbility to courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees agency representatives the public and othersAbility to function in a positive manner in a demanding work environment to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility to respond to priorities and schedules that change frequently and to meet commitmentsStrong communication skills in a multilingual multibackground organizationStrong ability to work with multibackground staff in a team settingOther duties might be assigned as needed by a supervisorRequirementsEducation & ExperienceMINIMUM JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:Associate degree3-4 years of work experience in community outreach services advocacy and social supportIs part of has background and/or experience in working with immigrant and refugee communities and understanding of community values and traditionsBilingual/Trilingual in English and fluent in one or both of the following languages required: Ukrainian and Russian (with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing) ability to translate written and verbal information into concepts that are understandable for community membersMust be proficient in the English language oral and written communication skills commensurate with the needs of the positionExperience/proficient in MIP Microsoft Office Microsoft Excel and a variety of software packagesExperience using standard office equipmentPhysical Mental & Environmental RequirementsOn-site jobCommunication: Some interaction with those inside and outside the organization to exchange factual informationCreativity: Regular need for redesign of a single focus process or procedure is neededMental: There is minimal variation in tasks.
