OverviewThe Vermont Department of Labor is seeking a motivated Policy Intern to join our team in Montpelier. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in policy research, analysis, and development within a state government setting. As a Policy Intern, you will work closely with the Department's Policy Director to support initiatives that shape labor policies and workforce strategies in Vermont.Who May ApplyThis position, Internship - Policy (Paid) - Temporary (Job Requisition # 53966), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours, and is not expected to be full-time. You must apply online to be considered.Key Responsibilities-Assist in conducting research and analysis on the labor market, workforce development programs, and legislative proposals.-Draft policy briefs, memos, and reports summarizing research findings and recommendations.-Monitor and track legislative and regulatory developments related to labor policies.-Monitor legislative hearings and prepare accurate, timely notes to keep leadership informed.-Support stakeholder engagement efforts by preparing materials for meetings, forums, and public hearings.-Collaborate with departmental staff on special projects and initiatives as assigned.-Provide administrative support to the policy team, including notetaking, data entry, and document management.Qualifications-Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise reports.-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.-Interest in labor issues, economic policy, and public sector administration.-Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Preferred Skills-Previous coursework or experience in policy analysis, legislative affairs, or government relations.-Knowledge of Vermont state government structure, policies, and priorities.-Demonstrated interest or experience in workforce development, labor economics, or related fields.The benefits of being an Intern with the Vermont Department of Labor-Gain practical experience in policy research and analysis within a state government agency.-Work closely with experienced professionals and receive mentorship and guidance.-Contribute to meaningful projects that impact labor policies and economic opportunities in Vermont.-Create a work portfolio.Equal Opportunity EmployerThe State of Vermont celebrates diversity, and is committed to providing an environment of mutual respect and meaningful inclusion that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills.
