Paint Process Engineer – Robotic Programming at True North Consultants

Job Title: Paint Process Engineer Robotic ProgrammingLocation: Atlanta GADepartment: Manufacturing Engineering / Paint OperationsReports To: Engineering ManagerPosition Summary:We are seeking a Paint Process Engineer to join our manufacturing team supporting automotive component production. This position focuses on programming optimizing and maintaining robotic paint systems (including fan-style paint robots) to ensure consistent coating quality efficiency and compliance with production standards. The ideal candidate will combine engineering expertise with hands-on programming skills to improve process reliability reduce waste and enhance product appearance and performance.Key Responsibilities:Develop program and optimize robotic paint applications using fan and multi-axis paint robots.Configure robot paths flow rates and paint parameters for optimal coverage transfer efficiency and surface quality.Support launch and continuous improvement of automated paint processes for new and existing automotive components.Monitor troubleshoot and adjust paint systems to ensure consistent film build color accuracy and quality standards.Collaborate with design maintenance and quality teams to implement process changes and corrective actions.Maintain documentation for robot programs process parameters and paint system settings.Conduct root cause analysis for defects such as runs orange peel thin coverage or contamination.Lead trials for new paint materials and application equipment.Support safety environmental and lean manufacturing initiatives within the paint department.Qualifications:Bachelors degree in Mechanical Electrical Chemical or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field).3 years of experience in paint process engineering within an automotive or industrial environment.Experience programming paint robots (e.g. Fanuc ABB Dürr or similar) required.Strong understanding of spray dynamics atomization and electrostatic paint systems.Proficient in robotic path programming teach pendant operation and offline simulation tools.Knowledge of paint booth design air handling curing ovens and surface prep processes.Proven ability to analyze process data and implement continuous improvement solutions.Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.Preferred Skills:Experience with PLC integration and paint flow control systems.Familiarity with automotive quality systems (IATF 16949 ISO 9001).Understanding of environmental and safety regulations related to paint operations.Project management experience in process automation or equipment installation.Why Join Us:Opportunity to work with cutting-edge robotic paint technology.Collaborative team environment focused on innovation and process excellence.Competitive pay comprehensive benefits and professional growth opportunities.
