Painter, Housing and Residence Life at University of Tennessee

DescriptionUnder general supervision the painter performs work preparing and painting within buildings equipment furniture and various other surfaces and performing related work as required.ResponsibilitiesRemoves and replaces damaged wall ceiling and trim materialsPrepares materials to properly accept finishesApplies finishes with paint brushes rollers or spray applicators to buildings equipment furniture and other surfacesDetermines type and kind of materials needed time allowance between coats the number of coats required and adequacy of surface preparation for areas to be paintedApplies primer sealer and undercoats to office interiors and applies finish and/or protective coats to walls and ceilingsThins material to proper consistency and mixes/matches paints to surfaces being paintedSafely operates ladders lifts and scaffolding when performing tasks at elevated heightsPerforms other general maintenance work as requestedThe ideal candidate will possess the following:Knowledge of principles practices and methods of paintingKnowledge of paints colors and mixing of colorsKnowledge of surface preparations primers sealers undercoats and thinnersKnowledge of the equipment used in paintingKnowledge of the safety precautions to be used when working with the necessary equipmentAbility to apply paint evenly consistently and efficientlyAbility to follow oral and written instructionsAbility to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employeesThe review of applications will begin June 9 2025 and will continue until the position is filled.QualificationsMinimum: Typically requires a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.Preferred: Three or more years of relevant experience is preferred.
