Job Title:Painter Exemption Status/Test: NonexemptReports to:Director of Maintenance Date Revised:Dept./School: Maintenance Primary Purpose:Under general supervision apply coats of paint varnish stain enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior and interior surfaces trimmings and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the district.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Clear and valid Texas drivers licenseSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of equipment materials methods practices and tools used in painting tradeAbility to properly apply paintsKnowledge of and ability to mix paint to match colorsAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to work independentlyExperience: years experience in painting fieldMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Maintenance and RepairPrepare surfaces for painting including sanding and removing old paint filling holes cracks and joints with appropriate filler. Tape float and texture walls and ceilings.Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment oil and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.Paint surfaces using brushes spray gun paint rollers or other methods to achieve required effects. Stain seal and varnish wood surfaces.Erect scaffolding set up ladders or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.Pick up and deliver painting supplies to campuses; maintain delivery records.Receive and complete work orders. Identify and complete needed repairs on buildings grounds and equipment using established inspection procedures. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.SafetyPerform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing.
